Bluegrass Foster Services has been hitting the halls of local high schools and elementary schools during their Back-to-School Open Houses! We’ve loved connecting with parents, students, and school communities while sharing free goodies but most importantly, bringing awareness to Bluegrass and the services we provide to children and how they can make a difference in a child’s life.

President Michael Addison and his wife, April, recently had the privilege of attending Lynn Camp High School’s Open House. They were able to share about Bluegrass Foster Services, connect with families, and even have the opportunity to pray with several families.

Appalachian Children's Home is grateful to announce that we have been awarded a grant from the Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) Community Grant Program to purchase three Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for our campus.
With eleven buildings spread across campus, having lifesaving equipment readily available is essential. These AEDs will help ensure our staff can respond quickly during a medical emergency while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.
We sincerely thank ARH for investing in the safety and well-being of the children and staff we serve.

One child recently found permanency through adoption, beginning a new chapter with a forever family.
We also celebrated another young adult who successfully discharged from services and transitioned into independent living. We wish them continued success as they pursue their goals and build bright futures.

A Story of Hope and New Beginnings

At Bluegrass Foster Services, we often say that every child deserves the opportunity to build a brighter future. Stories like Desiree’s remind us why that mission matters.

Desiree Simpson (Cheek) came to Appalachian Children’s Home in 2019. During her time there, she later entered foster care through Bluegrass Foster Services, where she found the love, support, and encouragement she needed to begin a new chapter in her life. She was placed with a wonderful foster family in London, Kentucky, where she continued to grow, heal, and pursue her dreams.

Today, at just 22 years old, Desiree has achieved incredible milestones. She is happily married, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lincoln Memorial University, and now serves her community as a registered nurse at Saint Joseph London.

Her journey doesn’t stop there. Desiree is continuing her education and is on track to earn her Master of Social Work degree in 2027. Her passion for helping others reflects the compassion, resilience, and determination she has shown throughout her journey.

We praise God for the amazing work He has done in Desiree’s life and are grateful for every person who walked alongside her—from the staff at Appalachian Children’s Home to her Bluegrass Foster Services foster family and the many supporters who encouraged her along the way.

Desiree’s story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Every child deserves hope. Every child deserves an opportunity. Every child deserves someone who believes in their future.

Congratulations, Desiree! Your Bluegrass Foster Services and Appalachian Children’s Home family is incredibly proud of you, and we can’t wait to see all that God has planned for your future.

Bluegrass Foster is so excited to celebrate a very special milestone today. Mason and Jordan Jeffries are now the proud parents of Jonah, one of our foster children. What began as a foster care journey has become a forever family for Jonah.

Mason and Jordan have already been an incredible part of the Bluegrass Foster family, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Congratulations to the Jeffries family and Jonah on finding his forever home.
