Ernie Donahue was a man of great integrity, a kind generous heart and enjoyed the little things in life. In December 2014 at a young age of 41, Ernie began having memory issues. After a lot of hospital visits and misdiagnosis, Ernie was diagnosis through brain biopsy with CJD in April 2015. We were told there is no treatment and no cure.. this was a death sentence. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a rare and rapid degenerative, invariable fatal brain disorder. There is no treatment and no cure. It is fatal usually within 6 months of the first symptom. Eighty-five percent of the cases are sporadic, meaning there is no known cause. Something is causing this.. other forms of CJD we know are either transmitted or inherited.
*Research is desperately needed. Statistics report this is one case per million. Research points to misdiagnosis being a big factor in this number. Several reports state that a possible 10% of Alzheimer's cases are actually CJD. Currently we can only get a positive diagnosis with brain biopsy or autopsy. *Research is desperately needed.
