"When a two-car crash injured five people on Mount Desert Island last month, for instance, the island’s three EMS providers could muster only one ambulance, and first responders had to call in a LifeFlight helicopter and two ambulances an hour away in Bangor."

This is a serious issue, and one that needs to be addressed now rather than later.

A shortage of EMTs and paramedics has left rural ambulance services in dire shape, EMS professionals say, and it's time for the state to step in and help.

On any given day, approximately 50,000 traffic incident responders work roadside to restore safe travel after traffic incidents such as crashes or spilled cargo. Stay alert for traffic incidents and especially incident responders.

Many hands make light work, especially during large diameter hose testing. Several new Call Members helped today go a lot easier. With a severe shortage of full-time, and volunteer staff, we appreciate the help. Thanks!

Bar Harbor is feeling much of the same as we have been understaffed for over a year. The island as a whole is stretched thin with multiple agencies around utilizing mutual aid more and more to help cover their calls. It's a serious issue that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

The fire chief in Skowhegan, Shawn Howard, says he has 15 openings for firefighters, and he's not confident he can fill them all anytime soon.
