The Michael Matters Foundation exists to help families manage incidental costs while they are focused on the treatment and care of a loved one. Michael Matters provides grants to families who financially cannot afford to continue with treatment. This support can help with pre-existing needs that the patient or family is suddenly challenged to meet due to their illness of a glioblastoma, or to help offset many of the numerous costs that may arise (such as parking, travel, prescriptions, in-home care, and meals) that can accompany the patient experience. Their goal is to allow families to better focus on their care by easing their financial pressures. No one should have to choose between putting food on the table for their family and death.
During the three weeks leading up to Thanksgiving- the first three weeks in November- the Deerfield High School student body and its surrounding community will unite with a mission to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Michael Matters Foundation. A significant portion of the funds raised by School Chest will be donated in order to give grants to each sick patient in need. The remaining funds will go directly toward research to find a cure for glioblastomas.
