American Indian & Alaska Native Veterans Monument Honoring American Indian & Alaska Native Veterans as the highest representation per capita of militar

The purpose of the American Indian Veterans Monument is to honor the lives of American Indian Veterans who have served in the military throughout the history of the United States. Their stories must be told and their legacy preserved, for the benefit future generations. There is no national monument dedicated to those who have demonstrated tremendous courage and dedication to military service in d

efending their country. It would be a tragedy if this history was not memorialized and their stories passed on to inspire the next generation of leaders.

This post highlights a video that explains the why and when of the long-expected American Indian Veterans Memorial which will be constructed at Riverside National Cemetery. It is the third and final video of three – the first two having been released in the prior two days.
The Memorial Day release was planned simply to share in honoring the remembrances that our U.S. citizens frequently recognize on this holiday. Memorial Day, originally called “Decoration Day” was proclaimed three years after the Civil War officially ended (1866, 158 years ago).
Please take a few minutes to recognize those military men and women who have trained and protected us together for more than two centuries. Our indigenous warriors have been an important group within their ranks. We will give thanks for all.
And many thanks for taking the time to view our three videos. If you plan to attend the Memorial Day service at the Riverside National Cemetery, please come by and see me. I will be there and would enjoy meeting you and yours.

American Indian Alaska Native Veterans Memorial Committee

Sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg was inspired to create the bronze memorial statue named by him as THE GIFT. It is a twice life-sized American Indian figure with several symbols included in its design. Thom briefly explains his inspiration on this video. The video is the 2nd of three videos designed to be released during this 2024 Memorial Day weekend. The final, third video, will be released tomorrow.
Learn more about Thom’s works at schombergstudios.com. There is a longer video there that relates to THE GIFT. THE GIFT will be the centerpiece monument for the American Indian Veterans Memorial which will be constructed at Riverside National Cemetery, hopefully, in time for Veterans Day 2024. Thank you for joining in our remembrances of the over 200-year history during which our indigenous U.S. military brothers and sisters fought for our country and its freedoms.
You may be planning to attend the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Riverside National Cemetery on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 10:00 a.m. at the RNC Amphitheater. If so, try to arrive early to have convenient parking and seating selections. Thank you.

Many inquiries are made to the Riverside National Cemetery Support Committee and the American Indian Alaska Native Veterans Memorial Committee, a partner with the RNC Support Committee. We are working together to start construction on the American Indian Veterans Memorial at the cemetery.

One of the most frequent questions about this project is, “When will the American Indian Veterans Memorial be completed?” The attached video will begin to answer that question. This video is the first of three and was filmed at the entrance to the Riverside National Cemetery's amphitheater. "THE GIFT," a sculpture that will be the centerpiece of the future Memorial, is temporarily installed there so the public can view a major part of the future Memorial.

You may want to attend the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the RNC Amphitheater. Please take a few minutes to view "THE GIFT" if you attend the program, which honors our United States military service men and women. In the meantime, please watch the two following videos, tomorrow and on Monday, Veterans Day 2024. Together, the three videos will answer the question of when the Memorial will be completed and explain why the American Indian Veterans Memorial project is being created to honor indigenous veterans and all U.S. veterans' service.

Thank you.
