We did Jentel Presents a bit differently for our May residents: Andy Teirstein, Samara Johnson, Jade Song, Ty Raso, Alex Schechter, and Peter Everett.

Community members were able to join a studio tour at Jentel Artist Residency in Banner, Wyoming, to hear the artists speak about their creative practice and see their work. This will be the new format for the foreseeable future.

J. Alex Schechter (b. 1988, Moose, WY) is a sculptor based out of Greenville, SC. Alex holds a BA in Religious studies from Grinnell College and an MFA in Sculpture from The Maryland Institute College of Art. His work focuses on tensions between secular myth making and environmental realities, engaging in a slippage between technology, magic, ritual, myth and story.

At the Jentel Studio Tour, the Jentel Artist Residency artists share their artworks, writing, and music with the community in their studios. Jentel Studio Tour will take place on Tuesday, May 26th 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at the Jentel Artist Residency, 132 Lower Piney Road in Banner, WY. Light lunch will be provided. RSVP to [email protected].

This month’s presenters include:

Andy Teirstein, Accord, NY; Composer; Andy likes cold plunges in a pond, sings with a Balkan choir, teaches music in a prison, and likes to sleep under the stars.

Peter Everett, Spanish Fork, UT; Painter; Peter lives in the mountains of Utah with his family. He is an amateur mycologist, a blacksmith/silversmith, and he maintains a small orchard.

Ty Raso, Provincetown, MA; Poet; A trans poet, essayist, and multi-media artist, Ty is currently working on a book-length prose poem exploring digital persona curation, the "avatar," and sexualized surveillance of trans bodies.

Jade Song, Brooklyn, NY; Writer; Jade pole dances and lives with too many books. She loves visiting cemeteries—her favorites are Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery and Certosa di Bologna in Italy.

Samara Johnson, Laramie, WY; Interdisciplinary Artist; Samara is originally from Alaska and has spent a lot of time adventuring in her life. She enjoys being around horses and cross-country skiing.

Alex Schechter, Greenville, SC; Visual Artist; Alex Schechter was born in Moose, Wyoming; he now lives in Greenville, South Carolina. He has lived in eight other cities in between.

The Jentel Artist Residency accepts applications twice a year from visual artists in all media, writers in all genres, and composers in all genres for a three-week residency. Christian Hastad is an artist based in Austin, Texas. He creates mixed media assemblage, paintings, and sculptures. His work utilizes material and mark as a way to meditate on memory, time, and contemporary life.

His recent exhibitions include "Acceleration Without Arrival" (2025) at the Visual Arts Center in Austin, TX, "Re-Imagining the Ney" (2023) at the Ney Museum in Austin, TX, and "Backburner" (2023) at MirrorLab in Minneapolis, MN. During his residency at Jentel he will be completing work for his upcoming solo exhibition at After Hours Gallery in St. Paul, MN.

He has been an artist in-residence at Vermont Studio Center (2025) and SOMA (2024) in Mexico City. Hastad received an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in Studio Art in 2025.

Jentel Presents provides the opportunity for these artists to share their visual artwork and writing with our enchanting Sheridan community. This event will take place on Tuesday, April 28th from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Inner Circle in Sheridan. Feel free to bring your lunch; cookies will be provided.

This month’s presenters include:

Maggie Dubris, New York City, NY; Collaborative Song Writer; She spent many years as a 911 paramedic in New York City. When she retired in 2023, she walked the entire Camino de Santiago. She practices karate and loves to field record.

Lisa Gutkin, New York, NY; Composer; She spent her childhood summers in jerry rigged houses with Yiddish-speaking lefty garment worker activists. Lisa invents tools and gadgets and has been a touring musician for 40 years.

Christian Hastad, Austin, TX; Painter/Sculpture; Raised in the wetlands of Minnesota, he has always considered how environments shape memory. He is deeply interested in our evolving relationship to images and materials we trust to hold them.

Anthony Lombardi, Brooklyn, NY; Poet; Vinyl-hoarding, mixtape-slinging writer whose work is foundationally informed by the aesthetics, pulse, and history of music. He has had a poetry collection published by YesYes Books and is working on a memoir.

Stephanie Rose, Powell, WY; Painter; Artwork by Japanese and Chinese artists hung in her childhood home in Hong Kong. Unexpectedly and unintentionally, she sees whispers of their voices surfacing in her work.

Emma Binder, Madison, WI; Fiction Writer; They enjoy bouldering, reading, making mix CD’s, and riding their bike while listening to very loud music. They look forward to winter because they get to skate on the pond.

JWGoll is a writer and artist working as a Patient Advocate at a large hospital in North Carolina. His stories are born of experiences as a photographer in Chicago, the Dakotas, and Central Europe. He has a degree in photography from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. As a sculptor and installation artist, he has been represented by galleries in Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, New York, and Chapel Hill, NC.

Leyla Brittan | Resident in March 2026

Leyla Brittan is an author of young adult and literary fiction, currently based in San Francisco but always on the move. Her debut novel, Ros Demir Is Not the One (Holiday House 2024), explores themes of multicultural identity and female friendship. Originally from Chappaqua, New York, she has worked in tech, journalism, and film/television. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Harvard University and an MFA in creative writing from the University of Wyoming. She’s delighted to be back in Wyoming and working on a new project at Jentel!

Hillary Bonhomme | Resident in March 2026

Hillary Bonhomme is a performer, composer, and multi-disciplinary artist originally from Southwest Louisiana, now living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Her interest in a music career began with her work as a radio producer, which led to composing and performing her original music. Hillary’s solo act has been toured across the United States and abroad. She continues to collaborate with filmmakers, choreographers, and podcast producers from around the world. She was an artist in residence at Banff Musicians in Residence at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in 2026, the House of Cards at the Honey Locust Residency in Arnaudville, Louisiana, and Mudhouse Residency in Crete, Greece in 2025. Hillary is working as founder and director of Glacial Humming, a music-social practice where participants sing and connect through Hillary’s concept pieces for ensemble. Her sound is influenced by her admiration of Nina Simone, Meredith Monk, Phillip Glass, and Beverly Glenn-Copeland.
