Today at the Rotary Club of Bangor meeting, President Jan Currier had the honor of presenting four Rotarians with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

Named after Paul Harris, the Paul Harris Fellow award was established by The Rotary Foundation in 1957 to recognize individuals who have contributed, or who have had contributions made in their name, of $1,000 or more to support Rotary’s humanitarian, educational, and peace-building initiatives around the world and/or made an impact on the community through volunteer efforts. The recognition honors Rotary’s founder and reflects a commitment to the ideal of “Service Above Self.”

Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

This week at the Bangor Rotary Club, we were proud to present another round of scholarships to three outstanding students as they prepare for the next chapter of their educational journeys.

Congratulations to our scholarship recipients:
🎓 Peyton Antone
🎓 Emme Nguyen
🎓 Clara White

Scholarship Committee member Ben Sprague shared that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the Bangor Rotary Club Scholarship Program. Over those 35 years, our club has awarded more than $235,000 in scholarships and helped 140 students pursue their educational goals.

These scholarships represent more than financial assistance—they are an investment in future leaders, professionals, and community members who will help shape the future of Maine and beyond.

We are honored to play a small role in supporting Peyton, Emme, and Clara as they take the next steps toward their dreams. Congratulations to all three recipients, and thank you to our Scholarship Committee members who make this program possible year after year.

Today at the Rotary Club of Bangor meeting, we had the privilege of presenting five scholarships to five incredibly deserving individuals pursuing continued education and investing in their futures.

This year’s recipients represent exactly what Rotary is all about — service, perseverance, growth, and strengthening our community. Three of our scholarship recipients are non-traditional students courageously taking the plunge to further their skills and make an even greater impact, while two are graduating seniors preparing to begin their college journeys.

As Scholarship Committee Chair Carin Sychterz shared, “This is Rotary at its best. It’s local and it’s personal.”

Congratulations to our scholarship recipients:

🎓 Autumn Nichols — graduating from Bangor High School and attending University of Maine to study Ecology & Environmental Sciences.

🎓 Sara Colbath — currently attending Eastern Maine Community College for Culinary Arts and graduating this December. She plans to launch her own bakery after graduation.

🎓 Emrys Murnik — graduating from John Bapst Memorial High School and attending Northwestern University on a pre-med track.

🎓 Ann Sharkey — currently attending Beal University for Welding, pursuing something she shared she has “always wanted to do.”

🎓 Janet Bradberry — attending University of Maine at Augusta for Health & Human Services and already making a tremendous impact in our community.

We are so excited for these five remarkable women and look forward to awarding three more scholarships next week!

We were delighted to welcome Stacey Coventry and her pet partner, Pigeon, to the Rotary Club of Bangor this past Tuesday! 🐾

Stacey shared more about Pet Partners of Eastern Maine and the incredible impact therapy animal teams have throughout our communities. From hospitals and schools to nursing homes and rehabilitation settings, Pet Partners teams help bring comfort, connection, encouragement, and smiles to people who need it most.

Pet Partners is a nationally recognized organization that registers therapy animal teams dedicated to improving human health and well-being through the human-animal bond. Their volunteers and therapy animals provide meaningful visits that can help reduce stress, ease loneliness, support recovery, and brighten someone’s day in a truly special way.

Thank you, Stacey and Pigeon, for taking the time to share your story and the important work being done across Eastern Maine! 🐶

Rotary Club of Bangor President, Jan Currier, rocks the hairnet while volunteering at Maine Day Meal Packout today. We worked with the incredible UMaine student volunteers (shout out to the enthusiastic women’s hockey players!) to fill boxes for food insecure Mainers. United for Good!

Another great meeting at the Bangor Rotary Club! 🔔

We were excited to officially welcome Joe Pickering back into Rotary—welcome back, Joe! It’s always great to see familiar faces return to the club.

Our featured speaker, Andre Cushing, delivered a highly informative update on Penobscot County’s ongoing search for a new jail site. His presentation provided valuable insight into the process, considerations, and long-term vision for the project—including renderings that illustrated what a best-case scenario could look like.

Thank you to Andre for sharing your time and expertise, and to all who joined us for another engaging and impactful meeting.

Last week, the Bangor Rotary Club had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame for a truly memorable program! 🎶

Founded in 1978, the Hall of Fame was created to honor and preserve the legacy of Maine’s country musicians and their impact on the genre across the state, nation, and even the world. Today, it includes more than 150 inductees and showcases over a century of Maine’s rich country music history through instruments, memorabilia, and stories passed down through generations.

One of the most fascinating takeaways? The museum—located in Mechanic Falls—is the only physical country music hall of fame east of Nashville, highlighting just how special Maine’s contribution to country music truly is.

We also learned about Maine’s deep roots in the genre, including early coast-to-coast country radio broadcasts that originated right here in Bangor!

To top it all off, our club members were treated to a fantastic live musical performance at the end of the presentation—a perfect reminder that this music isn’t just history… it’s still very much alive. 🎸

Thank you to our presenters for sharing such an engaging and inspiring look at Maine’s musical heritage!
