Somehow, we’re already halfway through fair season. 🎡
It feels like we were just counting down the days, waiting for the gates to open… and now we’re already at that point where we’re realizing just how quickly another fair season is passing us by.
For those of us who are part of the fair industry, we know it’s about so much more than rides, food, ribbons and grandstands.
It’s the early mornings and the really late nights. The miles driven from one fair to the next. The dusty boots, packed schedules, quick meals and running on way too little sleep. It’s volunteering when nobody sees it, jumping in wherever you’re needed, and giving up a whole lot of your free time simply because you love being a part of it.
But more than anything, it’s the people. ❤️
The friendships that started because of fairs. The familiar faces you only see a few weeks out of the year but somehow pick right back up like no time has passed. The people who welcome you into their fair, save you a seat, introduce you to someone new, teach you something, include you, encourage you and remind you that there really is something special about this little fair family we’ve created.
As Young Professionals, we are in such a unique position. We get to learn from the generations who built these traditions before us while also becoming the generation responsible for carrying them forward.
Every conversation, every connection, every volunteer hour, every new idea and every time we choose to show up matters.
Someday, these will be the “good old days” we talk about. The summers we wish we could go back to. The people in our fair-season pictures will be part of some of our favorite memories.
So while we still have half a season left, soak it all in. Take the pictures. Introduce yourself. Visit another fair. Volunteer for something new. Stay for one more pull, show, concert or lap around the midway. Thank the people working behind the scenes. And most importantly, appreciate the people beside you.
Because fair season goes by way too fast — but the friendships, memories and impact we make along the way can last a lifetime.
Here’s to the second half of fair season, the fairs still ahead of us, and continuing to connect, learn, lead and grow together.
We’re not just attending fairs.
We’re becoming part of their future. 🌾
