Over the years, Nick Rich has served MJBB as both head and assistant coach, making a significant impact on many players.
His passion for the game, dedication to player development, and steady leadership contributed to multiple state championships. Last season, he helped lead our 14U T3 team to the Maine State Champion title, and then finished the season as runner-up at Regionals.
Nick always shows what great coaching looks like. He leads by example, teaches the game thoughtfully, and supports youth hockey both on and off the ice.
As Nick and his family begin a new chapter after their relocation, we thank him for his many contributions to our organization. While we will miss his presence at the rink, we are confident his involvement in hockey will continue and that he and his children have bright futures.

Thank you, Nick. We wish you and your family all the best in everything you do next.

Ben Benwell has been a steady, fiscally conservative voice as Treasurer, helping ensure MJBB made thoughtful financial decisions that kept costs affordable for our families while maintaining a healthy budget for the future. His ability to balance what our players need today with what the organization needs tomorrow has helped create a stronger foundation for everyone.

While Ben is moving on to a new role with MEAHA, we're lucky this isn't goodbye. He's still very much a Junior Black Bear, and with two travel players this season, we'll continue seeing him around the rink.

Thank you, Ben, for the time, dedication, and careful stewardship you've given MJBB. Your impact will continue to benefit our players and families for years to come.

MAINE JR BLACK BEARS IN THE WILD!

It’s always great to see our players cheering each other on, no matter which sport they’re playing! Last season’s 10U players, Keegan and Thomas, faced off in a Little League game, while their teammates Eric and Coleson showed up to support them from the sidelines!
Some of these players are moving up to 12U next season, but their friendships and team spirit are coming right along with them. This is exactly what being part of our MJBB family is all about.

It's impossible to talk about MJBB without recognizing people like Chad Morin.

As our Equipment Director, Chad gave this organization his all. He brought 110% every single time and was always one of the first people ready to step in wherever he was needed.

There are people who volunteer, and then there are people like Chad.

He didn't do this work for recognition, and he certainly didn't do it just for his own child. He did it for every kid who walked through our doors because every player matters to him.

Along the way, Chad helped create something even bigger. He created a sense of belonging. He made families feel welcome, players feel supported, and helped build the community that MJBB has become.

Simply put, Chad is the true definition of a Team Dad.

Thank you, Chad, for your kindness, your dependability, and your endless dedication to this organization. Your impact will be felt for years to come, and you will be greatly missed.

Volunteer organizations depend on people who are willing to give their time, and Gaynor Ryan has done just that during her years with MJBB.

Gaynor helped lead our Grow the Game efforts, supported fundraising, and took part in our community events. She was often the very first person new families met at the rink, and she worked hard to make it as easy as possible for new families to join our family through our Learn to Skate program.

Thank you, Gaynor, for your dedication and service to MJBB. Because of you, our program is stronger and more young players have new opportunities.

There are leaders whose work is easy to see, and there are leaders whose impact is interlaced with every corner of an organization.

For the past eight years, Omekia Legassie has been one of our leaders.

When MJBB needed help, she said yes. Over the years, she worked year-round to guide the organization into the strong, stable, thriving program it is today. She has been involved in almost everything as Director of Hockey Operations, from scheduling and tournament hosting to fundraising, team management, events, and so many behind-the-scenes tasks.

But for Omekia, it was always about more than just what keeps us running. She always talks about doing it for these amazing kids of ours.

She shares accounts of watching first-time skaters grow into confident athletes and teammates. She talks about families new to hockey joining the community, making lifelong friends. She wants every child to have the same chance her own kids had: a place to learn the game, be challenged, make friends, and feel they belong playing the game she loves.

Her contribution is everywhere in this organization, but her biggest impact is the culture she helped create. A healthy organization focused on opportunity, community, belonging, and a love of hockey.

Thank you, Omekia, for your leadership, your many hours of service, your friendship, and the heart you have given to MJBB.

Organizations do not become successful by accident. They are built through years of hard work, sacrifice, vision, and leadership.

For many years, Lee Miller has been a driving force behind the Maine Jr. Black Bears. He guided the organization through challenges, celebrated successes, and helped MJBB become a hockey community we could all be proud to be part of.

His leadership brought multiple championships, memorable seasons, and numerous opportunities for many young athletes. More importantly, he fostered a culture that prioritizes players and families while ensuring hockey remains accessible and affordable.

Although leadership roles may change, the impact of a true leader endures. The culture, values, and foundation Lee established will continue to guide our organization for years to come.

Thank you, Lee, for your many incredible contributions to the Maine Jr. Black Bears. We are stronger because of your service, and your legacy will endure well beyond your time as our President.

Maine Jr. Black Bears is entering its next chapter.

The story of this organization wasn't built by one person, board, or season. It was built by volunteers, coaches, board members, families, and supporters who believed in creating opportunities for young athletes to learn, grow, and succeed.

For that, we are incredibly grateful.

We owe a sincere thank you to those who served before us and helped create the foundation we build on today. Their diligence, leadership, and countless volunteer hours shaped the organization we know and love.

As we look ahead, our goal is simple: build on that foundation while introducing fresh perspectives, renewed energy, and a collaborative mindset to everything we do. The future of MJBB will be strongest when we work together, listen to each other, and keep our focus where it belongs on our players and families.

Please join us in welcoming our newly elected Board Members:

PRESIDENT : Quinn Paradis
TREASURER: Meaghan Deabay

GENERAL BOARD SEATS (in alphabetical order):
Melanie Darrigo
TJ Herlihy
Sarah Morin
Michael Perry
Jane Puhlman
Michael Tuell

In the coming days, we'll be sharing personalized posts that recognize the individuals whose efforts helped shape MJBB and make this upcoming chapter possible.

We also invite all members to join us at our next Board Meeting on 23 June at Hero’s in Bangor, starting at 6 pm. Please visit our website for all scheduled Board Meeting information.
