Good Morning Veterans,
I just wanted to take a moment and update you all on the happenings of SVA at EMCC lately. In October of 2017, a coalition of student veterans started back up the local EMCC chapter, focused on Veteran interest, volunteerism, and continuing to serve in any way we could. In the new year, new by-laws have been created, officers elected, volunteer opportunities planned, and fundraisers are in the works.
I, Chris Cobleigh, have been elected the President of the latest iteration of the SVA at EMCC, and would like to take this opportunity to invite any veteran, active duty, reservist, or national guard member to attend our bi-weekly meetings. I apologize for the short notice of today's meeting (2/28/18) but would encourage you to attend the meeting on the 14th of March at 1230 in the SVA lounge in Katahdin Hall. We would welcome any assistance, new members, or new ideas!
Further, we are putting together a fundraiser to sell .50cal bullet bottle openers! They will have our freshly designed chapter logo, Student Veterans of America, and EMCC engraved on them. Pictures, presale flyers, and prices to follow, for all those that are interested.
We are looking for some inputs on volunteer opportunities, and while we have a few ideas, or events planned, our intent is to serve as many people as possible, and to show how veterans are truly humble servants of their communities! We will be spending some time at the local Bangor Veteran's Home, and landscaping the flag pole on campus. But, we can do more, and again would like to invite you out!
Lastly, we have decided to host a resume' writing workshop in partnership with JMG's (Jobs for Maine Graduates) Karen McGrady. We are going to have a lunch and learn on 8 Mar at 1200. This information session will be focused on properly composing a cover sheet, resume type, and resources. While this session will provide some resources, it will primarily focused on getting personnel to write a resume that at a later session will be combed over and edited. This will be open to 10-12 people, current veteran students having first priority, but then I would like to open this to all veterans/AD/SR/NG.
Thanks for taking some time out of your day to consider joining us, or supporting the SVA at EMCC in whatever way you can! I look forward to seeing/hearing/or working with you in the future.
Thank You,
Christopher Cobleigh
