Do you want to know why the Elks are the, "Best People On Earth"? Let me tell ya,
This past Friday, Heidi Worster sat for a total of six hous in the lounge doing a 50/50 raffle before the band raising money for our ENF program.
Sunday, starting in the morning Sherry Pinkos and Barbara Lawlor were in the lounge all day doing a 50/50 raffle to raise money for our MCCP program.
At 11am Ellen Murphy and Sharon Buck greated Bangors 25 lady Veterans in the lounge, presenting each of them with a Veterans challenge coin. And saying thank you for your service.
At 12 noon Sue and Phill Estabrook served delicious pulled pork sandwiches from the kitchen, all proceeds going to our Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP).
At 2pm Bangor Elks Officers and members held their flag day ceremony at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. What a fantastic and touching ceremony. A very special thank you goes to the Brewer JROTC for presenting the flags, Gary Freeman for reading the flag history and Bill Blackwell for reading the response.
Then back to the Elks for an MCCP grab bag meat rumble. Thank you goes out to Pat Tait and Karen Cullen for your continuous support.
Then something very special. Recently on April 29th a 17 year old young lady from Brewer, while working at a local eating establishment, sprung into action when one of her customers, (an Elk member of #244) had a MAJOR medical issue. Abigail immediately performed CPR on this individual until paramedics arrived, saving his life. Abigail was presented the Citizen Of The Year Award by our very own PER Shawn Stacey and ER Darryl Monteith, plus given a monetary amount for her heroic actions. Thank you Abigail, you are our HERO.
This my friends is why we are all Elks. Taking care of Veterans and uplifting our communities. Thank you to all Elks.
Elks Caring, Elks Sharing
