When things feel too overwhelming, remember :

Good evening! Looks like rain tomorrow and still
Needed according to the weather forecasters we are still in a drought situation. We seem to missing something here snow this weekend which is great because if the rest of you are like me I am not ready for it. It will be breezy. It will be in the mid 50s during the day.

I am still out but will be back Monday during the day and full day on Tuesday. I continue to sleep 💤 a ton and deal with the pain levels that way. Next week work up and resume infusions.

Tuesday was busy for the team and Indie was back supervising the HFH Villager
Team .🐶❤️

The usual went out such as Blessing bags, dog food, hygiene bags, coffee and creamer, feminine hygiene items, cereal, and other miscellaneous items. I worry about coffee and creamer levels. We haven't even started Warming Center time yet and are going through tons of coffee supplies etc.

We have received lots of donations over the past week or so. Clothing, handwarmers, canned pastas, some cereal, money from our friend in Florida (100.00) hot chocolate packets, gloves and the list keeps growing.

Anything is possible

Good Afternoon and Evening!! Looking ahead it looks like a great fall weekend! Cold again tomorrow night but nothing we can't handle. Has anybody turned on their heat yet?

This past Tuesday was a great day! The team was working in sync together under the direction of Indie. She may be MaineSpace's office dog aka manager but she runs a tight ship for Hope for Homeless's team of Villagers.

Orders went out. The usual , creamer, coffee , liquid hand soaps etc. Men's underwear galore, to the shelters. Speaking of supplies like liquid hand-soaps without FedEx we would never be able to help the shelters out. The field case managers got pop tarts, baby wipes, hygiene kits, Blessing bags etc.

One thing we are in early desperation need is hand warmers. We have a basic supply of them but not enough for the winter months, yet we are already getting requests for them for present use. We understand it's chilly 🥶 at night and warming centers aren't opened but it will be much colder come January and February. If we get a decent amount of hand warmer supplies we will reassess the inventory and use them approximately. Someone asked me why not hand out gloves. Reason why we don't? Because they will be dumped, dropped or lost this early in the game.

We received some bags of donations and a pair of boots. The team will sort all of them this upcoming Tuesday. Thanks ! Also had canned pasta and pop tarts as a donation!

Be mindful

Good evening! Chilly last night and even more so tonight. Wide area frost and in the low 30s.
It has been requested already for hand warmers but we aren't able to start handing out winter supplies yet. Otherwise no winter supplies for January!😞💔 Unless we get a few extra 100 handwarmers or gloves in advance .

So what have I been up to? Sleeping 💤 for hours on end and couldn't bless naps. We are forgoing the latest infusion (they extend treatment by another month but we are continuing oral chemo 3x daily at 600 mgs 🤮)

However we have a great team keeping HFH running. Clynk is still being collected and dropped off.(thank you all) Our villagers💕 from
Howland dropped off bags and bags of supplies. Our Villager ladies that pay for one of our storage units dropped off their funds💕for the month. And there was an Amazon package which I believed contained canned pasta.

As Ken and I travel we are encountering homeless in large numbers everywhere. 💔 it's an issue that many communities are at a loss as to what to do. How to help. Their citizens are also upset but also realize it's not just housing issues but more importantly mental health issues that have caused this. We met a gentleman today who works full time but had to sell his house to survive and it seems he is moving in with family/friends. He got very emotional about the this.😢

We went into a small chain mini mart the other day and they sold the bowls of ramen noodles BUT they offer free hot water for those who purchase a container of noodles.❤️ What a concept!!!

Faith moves mountains

Good evening! A another damp and windy day! Tomorrow is no better but I guess it is good for the drought we are suffering.

Over the weekend I did some CLYNK collection and so didn't our "CLYNK" nurse!

CLYNK fundraising helps out the Warming Centers. Maine's weather is not too friendly during the winter months for our outside homeless folks for a safe and warm center to stay in overnight and have a couple of warming centers during the day! We don't have the final list yet but hopefully soon.

Today was our usual Tuesday order out day! I'd you look carefully will see the new BOSS Indie (4 legged) supervising all the outgoing orders.

We are always sending out 35 boxes each week of cereal alone. Lately it has been going up in price! Yikes. But many groceries are. It's just when we go through over 140 boxes a month it just hurts a bit more.

I am taking some R&R time to get back some strength but the crew of Villagers are in touch with me and I have full faith in their abilities to make sure the HOPE continues for our homeless.

Hope is the bridge

Good evening! A very nice day (cold at 3AM) but perfect otherwise. Tomorrow is a repeat I believe of today!

I started out early on a run to FedEx. We filled the car with some beverages, tons of cleaning supplies, coffee, some snacks, oatmeal and a little bit of everything in between. I was luck today, I had Ken help me unload it but when it came to sorting I finally had to send him home. Lol

Then I had time to open up some deliveries. J&J sent us 5 flats of Ramen Noodles and 2 boxes (40 count) of peanut butter crackers towards our next Blessing Bag assembly.

We also received 5 double boxes of cereal.

We are getting a few requests for winter coats etc but we don't hand them out this early in the season. What happens when we get a warm spell (nights included) the coats etc gets tossed. We offer hoodies and such.

Human dignity...

Good Evening. Another perfect day in the weather department. I even had a sweater on for part of the morning. Tonight a bit chillier but tomorrow day looks perfect again.

This morning was "Tuesday." Meaning orders going out! We had the usual orders going out, Blessing Bags, hygiene bags, water and other beverages. Coffee, creamer, cereal. We also had a large order to go to Bangor Area Homeless Shelter. Their pantry day is today and we had an abundance of detergent from FedEx along with cleaning supplies. Most food pantries do not have cleaning supplies nor detergent. This will give them a boost.

Then it was off to collect CLYNK and drop off new bags as needed. Eight plus bags. Remember all the funds are turned over to our Warming Center funds. These help the Centers with hot drinks, snacks and sometimes even hot meals. Thank you!

As I drove through the city today, I was amazed at where our outdoor homeless are sleeping. It's actually scary for them. (in my opinion) Many are afraid to go into "hiding" with other homeless people. They sometimes make a little community. Not all make a mess. Some ask for extra trash bags and even try to pick up other's trash etc. Now they are sleeping in more visible spots. Under a huge parking lot or street lights.

I understand many people are frustrated and fed up with the homeless population in Bangor. I get it, I honestly do. Especially with the waste and needles that are left everywhere. But they do deserve dignity. They are humans. Prisoners get more respect than a homeless person.

Villagers, thank you for what you do daily to help us help our homeless. Giving Hope with every donation.

You can't give your life more time...

Good Afternoon and Evening. I would consider today's weather perfect and wouldn't mind seeing this about 90% of the time. Tomorrow looks pretty nice too, just a bit chillier at night.

Today was just a quick day of getting pre orders in for tomorrow's big day. (Tuesday pick up) Then working on some basic inventory for the next Blessing Bag assembly which is quite a few weeks out. But it's always a challenge because we are always looking for sales and donations.

The above are the 4 most needed items. We make up 900 bags at a time so we need 900 of each of those items.

Pop Tarts and Cereals are huge items we use in large quantities each week and of course we are trying to stock up on Warming Center Items.

If any of you are on any type of social media here in the Penobscot County area, it's hard pressed NOT to see the "uprising" comments about our homeless. Due to some ill reporting social media regarding our homeless, I am no longer going to state where the homeless groups are at. They do not deserve to have people pointing cameras in their face or being harrassed in other ways. Yes, homelessness is a serious issue. However housing is not the first priority for them. Affordable and available mental health is needed first. Shoving a homeless person into an apartment without 24/7 supervision and help will help no one and cause major frustration for our homeless folks.

To conquer frustration.

Good Evening. What a gray day..I have been sort of just waiting for rain but 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️. Perhaps tonight. They are saying 1/2 inch. Tomorrow looks nice and perhaps even a decent Saturday.

Yesterday we had a FedEx order (2nd one this week and perhaps another one tomorrow. It was filled with a lot of basics for pantries, paper goods (Whole case of toilet paper too) , cleaning supplies etc. And some 2 quart mason jars if anybody is interested in bartering or purchasing.

Then I ordered 45 boxes of cereal. We go through about 30-35 boxes a week. Ugh. I buy what is on sale and generic is fine. This week it was cheaper at SAM's club.

Also got notice that a pair of our Villagers has ordered 5 cases of Ramen noodles for our Winter Blessing Bags. We are going to use Ramen noodles in place of Vienna sausages due to cost and the decline of the homeless eating them. (Yes I check in to see what is being used and what is being tossed)

Today, we had 3 gallons of shampoo come in. The shelters use it in 2 oz condiment cups. It is cheaper than the hotel size, which we still use for the outside homeless.

This morning, I was driving around and saw an area in town being cleaned up where the homeless were staying. It was a bit of a disaster and I understand. But then I wondered...where did these folks go? So more driving around throughout the morning. Sadly, I found them setting up a new camping area. Basically there is no safe place for these folks to go. Some are not allowed back into the shelters due to behavior and such. Some are afraid to go due to mental health issues, addiction issues etc. And yes shelters at this time of year run to full.

I do get frustrated with the homeless when you see the garbage spread out. HFH hands out over 2000 garbage bags a month. There is one bag in each Blessing Bag. Then we hand out rolls to the case managers, who work hard trying to get the homeless to pick up the trash they leave.

But then with that frustration, I still believe they deserve 3 meals a day, basic hygiene and clothing. Our prisoners are given this daily and they are in jail for doing something wrong. Housing is necessary but not the first thing that needs to be addressed.

Look for something positive...

Good Evening! Another beautiful day. Keep them coming in Mother Nature. Tomorrow looks pretty good also. First chance of some light rain might be Thursday but not a lot.

Today was Tuesday's pickup up and delivery day. Plus we had a NEW Villager pop in to see how we open up and start out each Tuesday. She will be filling in the upcoming weeks.

Also Indie was there to oversee all Operations.

We had 5 orders going out. 4 pick ups and 1 delivery. The usual Blessing Bags, plus drinks, first aid supplies, hygiene bags, first aid supplies, a pair of sneakers, coffee, creamer, cereal galore and of course our infamous pop tarts.

I like meeting the case managers as they come in. I try to schedule them all a few minutes apart for pick ups. They all have different stories of their clients. One has clients that like the Monster drinks (when we get them from FedEx) Another likes the water flavor packets. You might be hearing about an elderly couple living in their car with a cat. Feeding the cat the little food they have. (yes we have cat food) or the man who is wearing flip flops sizes too small and really needs sneakers.

Our hats off to our case managers. For them caring enough to do this job day in and day out. The heartaches that they must see everyday. The stories they could really tell.

We had donations today. Pictures are included. Canned pasta is starting to come in and some granola bars also. Winter hats. Snacks. Thank you!

The anxiety of worry

A short post tonight. I am still worn out from this past Saturday and early, and heavy lifting this morning.

Good Evening! What a beautiful day! A bit chilly tonight but an even nicer day tomorrow!!! I could take this weather everyday.

Today, I started before 6:30! I was at FedEx to pick up a car load, plus the front seat with the seat belt attached so it wouldn't bing all the way back to Bangor. It was filled with tons of paper goods, lots of drinks, cleaning supplies, trash bags, coffee etc. We also got some glassware which we will barter for coffee for the Warming Center from local restaurants. It took me about 3 hrs to unload and sort and then another 90 minutes to deliver and barter.

We received 4 big boxes of hot cocoa mix. Thank you Villager. This will come in very handy during Warming Center time.

Blessing Bags, canned pasta (on sale this week at Hannafords!) Ramen noodles, puddings (individual) and peanut butter crackers. We need these in totals of 900 each.

I just got a message that Sam's Club delivered some heavy boxes so I will have to wait and see what's in those boxes tomorrow.

Warming Center supplies are still in need of coffee, dry creamer, hot cocoa packets, snacks, pop tarts, HAND WARMERS!!!

Many of us are worried about this upcoming winter, personally. But not only do some of us have these concerns of electric bills, heating bills etc but our homeless are going to be worried about just staying warm or staying alive during a Maine winter. Let's give them some HOPE.
