Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast

Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast At Rotary, it’s about fostering connections that inspire collaboration and impact. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

As a member of the Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast, you’ll engage with local professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders passionate about serving the community. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries w

orldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. Although Rotary clubs develop autonomous service programs, all Rotarians worldwide are united in a campaign for the global eradication of polio. In the 1980s, Rotarians raised US$240 million to immunize the children of the world; by 2005, Rotary's centenary year and the target date for the certification of a polio-free world, the PolioPlus program will have contributed US$500 million to this cause. In addition, Rotary has provided an army of volunteers to promote and assist at national immunization days in polio-endemic countries around the world. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural exchanges. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and others who share its vision of a better world. Since 1947, the Foundation has awarded more than US$1.1 billion in humanitarian and educational grants, which are initiated and administered by local Rotary clubs and districts.

🌧️ While the rain poured outside last Thursday evening, inside Timber Kitchen & Bar there was warmth, laughter, fellowship, and a room filled with people committed to making a difference. 💙💛

The Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast Annual Dinner brought together 28 members and guests to celebrate another remarkable year of service, friendship, and impact.

As President Julie Howland passed the gavel, we celebrated a year marked by growth, generosity, and service. Together, our club welcomed six new members and one returning member, earned four District Conference awards, supported causes both locally and globally through grants and scholarships, and strengthened our commitment to Service Above Self. 🌎❤️

But numbers and accolades only tell part of the story.

The true strength of our club isn't measured by awards or statistics. It's found in the friendships we've built, the lives we've touched, and the countless acts of kindness and service that often happen quietly, without recognition.

✨ Every meeting attended.
✨ Every fundraiser supported.
✨ Every scholarship awarded.
✨ Every project completed.
✨ Every helping hand extended.

Those moments create lasting impact. 🌟

One of the evening's most inspiring moments was presenting Andrew Cassidy with Rotary's highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition. Andrew's tireless advocacy for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism, his leadership in mission-driven nonprofit organizations, and his commitment to feeding those experiencing homelessness exemplify the very best of Rotary. Congratulations, Andrew! 👏🌟

Congratulations also to Cheryl Gray, whose generosity shined brightly when she donated her 50/50 Joker's Wild winnings back to the club. ❤️

💙 Leadership may have one face, but impact belongs to everyone.

No President succeeds alone. Every accomplishment this past year was made possible by dedicated board members, officers, committee chairs, and members who continue to show up with generous hearts and a shared commitment to serving others.

One of the evening's most meaningful moments came as President Julie Howland passed the gavel and bell 🔔 to incoming President Karen Shorey. As one chapter closes, another begins. Karen shared her excitement for the year ahead, and together we look forward to building on our momentum and continuing to create lasting impact in our community. 🌟

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Because Rotary isn't simply something we do.

✨ It is a promise to leave our communities, and one another, better than we found them.

💙💛 Service Above Self.

Here's to another year of friendship, fellowship, and changing lives, often in ways we may never fully realize. ✨

🎉 Tonight, the Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast gathers for our Annual Dinner, a special evening where we celebrate a year of service, leadership, fellowship, and the people who make our club what it is.

Preparing for this very post, we found ourselves reflecting on something we don't often think about: the impact we have on others that we may never see. 💙

A kind word.
A helping hand.
A lesson shared.
A moment of encouragement.

Most of us can point to someone who changed our lives in a meaningful way, yet many of those people may never know the difference they made.

That reflection feels especially meaningful as we also remember Dr. Lew Phillips, a founding member of the Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast and a dedicated Rotarian for 37 years. 🕊️ His commitment to Service Above Self helped build the foundation of the club we know today. The projects we undertake, the friendships we've formed, and the lives we touch in our community are all part of a legacy that leaders like Lew helped create.

✨ Tonight, we'll celebrate the accomplishments and growth of our club under President Julie Howland's leadership, recognize members who have gone above and beyond, and look ahead to another year of making a difference.

Rotary reminds us that leadership is influence, and influence isn't measured only by titles, projects, or recognition. It's measured by the lives we touch, often in ways we'll never fully know.

👏 Thank you to every member who gives their time, talents, and heart to our club and our community. You are making a difference, even when you don't see it.

💛 Service Above Self.

🇺🇸 Flag Day Reflection: The Pledge, Service, and the Next Generation 🇺🇸

Today, on Flag Day, we celebrate the American flag and reflect on the values that unite us as a nation and as members of our communities.

Recently, one of our newest members, Caleb Warren, shared a published op-ed that sparked meaningful conversation among our Rotary Club members.

The article was written in response to a piece by a Rotarian from another state who questioned whether reciting the Pledge of Allegiance still had a place in Rotary meetings. Caleb felt compelled to share a different perspective.

As a member of a younger generation, Caleb sees value in traditions that bring people together and remind us of our shared commitment to community, citizenship, and service.

He wrote:

"The Pledge of Allegiance is why I joined my club. My generation, ages 35 and under, has a sense of confusion when it comes to our nation. Some don't know what it means to be an American. Some are searching for values that resonate with them. We need to anchor in our values as Americans, so that we can be one nation. This allows us to be part of something bigger like Rotary International.

Every Thursday when my Rotary club meets, I look forward to the tradition of saying the pledge. I hope it may inspire others who listen."

What resonated with many of us was not simply Caleb's perspective on the Pledge of Allegiance. It was the deeper message behind it.

At a time when many organizations are asking how to engage younger generations, Caleb found something meaningful in Rotary:

🤝 A sense of community

💙 A commitment to service

🌎 The opportunity to be part of something bigger than himself

Rotary is often known for the projects we complete, the funds we raise, and the causes we support. But at its heart, Rotary is about people. It is about fellowship, leadership, service, and bringing together individuals who want to make a positive difference in the world.

Caleb shared that his purpose in writing the article was to encourage others to take pride in their communities, speak about the values that matter to them, and recognize the importance of belonging to organizations dedicated to service and positive change.

On this Flag Day, we are grateful for members like Caleb who remind us that the future is bright when people of all ages choose to engage, serve, and lead.

Thank you, Caleb, for sharing your voice, your perspective, and your commitment to Service Above Self. 🇺🇸💙

🏆✨ A Year of Service. A Year of Growth. A Year of Impact. ✨🏆

As the Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast closes the chapter on the 2025-2026 Rotary year, we find ourselves reflecting with immense gratitude and pride on what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared purpose.

This past Thursday, Jeff Plourde shared the awards and recognitions our club recently received at the Rotary District 7790 Annual Conference in Rangeley, Maine. Jeff and his son, Keegan Plourde, proudly represented our club and accepted these honors on behalf of all our members.

These awards belong to every Rotarian who attended a meeting, volunteered at an event, welcomed a guest, mentored a new member, supported a fundraiser, contributed to The Rotary Foundation, or simply chose to serve others. 💙

🌎 2024-2025 Rotary Year
🏅 Certificate of Appreciation
Presented in recognition of our club's financial support of End Polio Now, Rotary's historic effort to eradicate polio worldwide.

🌟 2025-2026 Rotary Year
🏅 Certificate of Recognition
Awarded for our exemplary commitment to The Rotary Foundation as a High Performing Club, demonstrating exceptional participation in Annual Fund per-capita giving.

🏅 District Governor Citation
Recognizing our club for creating a strong Silver-Level Member Experience, fostering engagement, connection, and value for our members.

🏅 Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation
Honoring our club's outstanding membership growth, welcoming six new members into our Rotary family this year.

These achievements tell a story of a club that is growing, thriving, and making a difference, not only here in the Bangor region, but around the world. 🌍

This year's recognitions also carried a more personal and heartfelt moment. Our club received a special memorial recognition honoring Les Myers, a beloved longtime member (1993) whom we lost this year. That recognition will be presented to Les's wife, Suzanna, as a tribute to his years of friendship, service, and dedication to Rotary. ❤️

Rotary is often measured in dollars raised, projects completed, or memberships gained. But its true impact is measured in something much greater: lives changed, communities strengthened, friendships formed, and hope created.

When we look back on this Rotary year, we don't just see awards on paper. We see breakfast meetings filled with fellowship. We see veterans served, students supported, nonprofits strengthened, community leaders informed, and countless volunteer hours invested in making our corner of the world a little bit better.

To every member, speaker, visitor, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter who helped make this year possible: thank you.

Together, we have demonstrated what Rotary's 2025-2026 theme means in action:

💙 Unite for Good.

And together, we'll continue making a difference in the years ahead.

💙 Celebrating Our Youngest Rotarian: Keegan Plourde 💙

Yesterday morning, Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast members enjoyed hearing from Keegan Plourde during his Classification Talk.

As our club's youngest member, and perhaps the youngest member in our club's history! Keegan shared his journey, interests, goals, and passion for service. 🌟

Keegan is currently a junior in Husson University's New England School of Communications (NESCom) Marketing Program and plans to continue his education by pursuing a Master's in Business. 📚

He also works at his family's business, Gallery Leather, where he serves as Marketing & Sales Coordinator and is gaining valuable experience while helping continue a successful Maine business. 💼

One thing that quickly becomes clear when talking with Keegan is his passion for skiing. ⛷️ In fact, he has been skiing since he was just 14 months old! His enthusiasm for the sport continues today through his involvement in Maine's skiing community.

Rotary service is already an important part of Keegan's life. One of his favorite club events is our annual Veterans Day Breakfast, where he feels honored to serve breakfast to the men and women who have served our country. 🇺🇸❤️

Keegan has also wasted no time becoming involved in club activities. He helped develop the program for our new Music Off Broadway fundraiser in April 2026 and recently attended the Rotary District Conference, where he proudly accepted several awards on behalf of our club. 🏆🎭

Looking ahead, Keegan plans to expand his community involvement by joining 100 Neighbors Who Care, and he shared an ambitious goal that we were excited to hear: someday becoming President of the Rotary Club of Bangor Breakfast. 👏

Perhaps most special of all is the Rotary connection he shares with his father, Jeff Plourde, a longtime club member. Rotary has become a meaningful experience they can share together while serving the community side by side. 💙

Thank you, Keegan, for sharing your story with us. We are excited to watch your Rotary journey continue and look forward to seeing the impact you'll make in our club and community for years to come!

Keegan is currently pursuing his MBA in Marketing Communications at Husson University while also serving as Marketing & Sales Coordinator at Gallery Leather, his family’s business based in Trenton, Maine. 📚💼

Although new as an official member, Keegan has already been part of the Rotary family for years—volunteering behind the scenes at club events and stepping up to support community initiatives. Most recently, he assisted with marketing and advertising efforts for our Music Off Broadway: Reviving The Mic fundraiser. 🎶✨

Outside of work and school, Keegan is passionate about skiing and serves as President of Husson University’s Ski & Snowboarding Club while also promoting Maine ski resorts through his website, Mainely Skiing. ⛷️❄️
