The Story Trail is back at Walden-Parke Preserve! ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŒฒ

Our first story of the season is "The First Blade of Sweetgrass" by Suzanne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey - a beautiful celebration of Wabanaki tradition and connection to the natural world.

Come take a walk, read along, and welcome spring with us!

The Cattail Marsh Loop at Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve got a major upgrade this past Saturday!

Thanks to volunteers from UMaine's Kappa Sigma fraternity, we were able to add crossties to slippery sections of bog bridging to help improve traction and extend the lifespan of the bridging. We're grateful for their hard work in getting this project done!

Today's a beautiful day to get outside! Come check out the new improvements and enjoy a spring hike!

Big news: this August, we're hosting our first-ever summer day camp, happening August 11-14th, 9am-3pm, for children ages 10-13!

Campers will explore how water shapes the land, uncover the wildlife that depend on wetlands, and trace food webs that connect plants, animals, and people.

The amazing educators from Maine Outdoor School will lead 4 days of discovery, exploration, and fun in the great outdoors at our preserves!

The best part? This incredible experience is completely FREE, thanks to a generous grant from the Davis Conservation Foundation.

Spots are limited, so sign up today! Please note that signing up does not guarantee your child a spot. Campers will be selected via lottery and notified in June.

This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to conserving land, protecting local natural resources, and serving our community with the highest standards of excellence and integrity. Accreditation is a rigorous process, and this milestone wouldn't be possible without the support of our members, volunteers, partners, and community.

When you're out on the trails, don't forget to look up! ๐ŸŒฒ

We recently spotted this porcupine making its way up a tree at Central Penjajawoc Preserve. North American porcupines are excellent climbers and spend much of their time in trees, feeding on leaves, twigs, and bark.

Moments like these are reminders of why conserving habitat matters. These spaces are more than just places for us to explore - they're home to a wide variety of wildlife.

This winter, a Virginia opossum was brought to our friends at Maine Wildlife Rehabilitation in need of care. After recovering from frostbite injuries, the opossum spent weeks in care, waiting out the rest of the winter for the right spring conditions - and it's finally time to return to the wild.

Join us on Wednesday, April 22nd at 6:30pm as we partner with Maine Wildlife Rehabilitation to release this opossum at Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve!

We'll walk in together, wish our wild neighbor well on its journey, and spend some time afterward learning more about the only marsupial native to the U.S. and the important role they play in our ecosystem.

Registration is required and space is very limited. To learn more and reserve your spot, visit www.bangorlandtrust.org/events.
