Advocating for STEM Access Across Maryland! 🙌

Recently FIRST Chesapeake participated in testimony supporting HB 0531, a bill aimed at creating a STEM Advisory Committee to analyze access and funding for robotics and STEM teams across Maryland. 🤖

We were proud to be joined by FTC Team 18442 – Gear Rotation, who helped present alongside incredible STEM partners including the STEM Center for Excellence 🔗 www.astemcoe.org and Let’s GO with STEM 🔗 www.letsgowithstem.org

HB 0531 represents an important step toward expanding equitable access to competitive STEM programs and ensuring students across Maryland have the resources they need to succeed.

Thank you to the students and partners who helped elevate this conversation and advocate for the future of STEM education. ❤️

Our Executive Director, Eric J Davis, and our Chief Administrative Officer, Maricruz Abarca, recently met with the leadership team at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) to continue advancing plans for our upcoming statewide convening, the STEM Workforce Summit: Building Maryland’s Future, One -Ship at a Time.

We are incredibly proud to continue moving meaningful conversations forward; conversations that connect education, industry, government, and community partners to create clear and scalable pathways from STEM learning to high-demand careers. Each meeting strengthens our shared vision: a Maryland where innovation, collaboration, and opportunity are accessible to every learner across all 24 Maryland districts.

The partnerships are growing, and together, we are building something transformational for Maryland’s future.

This morning’s breakfast with LET's Go and Delegate Wu reminded us of what happens when education, advocacy, and leadership come together with purpose.

Thanks Delegate Wu, for sponsoring HB531: Public Schools STEM and Robotics Program Task Force.

This legislation is an important first step toward studying how we can elevate STEM and robotics programs across Maryland and explore the feasibility of making competitive STEM and robotics programs varsity sports in every public school. This is about more than competition; it’s about opportunity, equity, and preparing our students for the workforce of tomorrow.

For us, the Maryland STEM Education to Employment Ecosystem (MSE3), this bill aligns with our vision of strengthening robotics, expanding access, and connecting students to real-world career pathways. When we treat robotics and STEM with the same energy and recognition as athletics, we send our students the message that innovation matters.

Let's continue the good work. Hearing is 2/18 at 1pm you can

The drive in these two STEMologists was unmatched. Full scholarships; enough credits to begin with Sophmore status says it all. Robotics is a sport, where everyone csn go Pro.
