Strong City Baltimore

Strong City Baltimore Building and Strengthening Neighborhoods and People Strong City Baltimore takes a holistic approach to building and strengthening neighborhoods and people.

Strong City’s influence extends to dozens more nonprofits and government agencies. Our Non-Profit Business Services program also supports over 100 programs throughout the city. We make neighborhoods, schools, people, and organizations stronger. We make Baltimore stronger. Strong City does not believe in quick fixes to complex problems. Experience has shown us that lasting change is achieved by sup

porting neighborhood leaders, fostering civic engagement, and building community. Strong City’s site-based community school coordinators support teachers, administrators and parents to augment services, identify resources, and help schools become neighborhood hubs. Strong City’s programs and partnerships increase individuals’ capacity to succeed. Our Adult Learning Center is the second-largest citywide provider of adult basic education and ESOL classes. Over the last decade, we have become a citywide force with expertise in numerous areas: working to strengthen local schools, facilitating neighborhood revitalization work block by block, providing adult literacy programs, running a community center, and supporting dozens of local nonprofits with fiscal sponsorship and back-office services. Although this work is diversified, it is unified: All of Strong City Baltimore’s activities have the common purpose of making our city’s people and neighborhoods stronger.

Cristina Uribe has been a student at the Adult Learning Center since 2020, at the start of the pandemic. She always valued education and wanted something more for herself. In her home country, Cristina was a math teacher. She believed in the idea of always striving for something greater. “I don’t want to fail” is a motto that she held close to her as she began to pave her way. She studied all the core GED subjects at the ALC and has even continued to study English on her own. Cristina has been making bounds within her education at ALC and was able to pass her GED exam and obtain her Maryland High School diploma! She is a shining example of what makes the ALC great!

Despite the fact that we are in the midst of a public health crisis, many Baltimoreans are facing eviction, and "the number of evictions is climbing."

Lawmakers must act this legislative session to implement greater eviction protection measures.
