That’s a wrap on another incredible VFW Department of Maryland State Convention in Ocean City! 🇺🇸✨

It was a productive and memorable few days at The Grand Hotel as comrades and auxiliary members from across the state came together to conduct the business of our department, elect our new leadership, and celebrate our shared commitment to serving Maryland’s veterans and their families.

We’ve attached a few highlight photos below to give you a glimpse of the action, but this is just the tip of the iceberg!

We have hundreds of photos uploaded to our main album, but we know our members were snapping away all week too. If you have photos from the business sessions, the banquets, or just catching up with friends around Ocean City, please drop them in the comments below or upload them directly to the album so we can keep the memories alive!

Thank you to everyone who traveled down, worked a booth, or helped make this year’s convention such a massive success. Let's carry this momentum forward into the new term!

📢 IMPORTANT LEGAL UPDATE FOR MARYLAND VETERANS

A federal court recently issued a major ruling against companies that take advantage of veterans by charging illegal fees for VA claims assistance.

What You Need to Know:
In the case of Ford v. Veterans Guardian, a federal court ruled that companies acting as "consultants" are actually violating federal law if they prepare and present VA claims for a fee without being accredited.

Key Takeaways:
Conduct Matters, Not Branding: Even if a company calls itself a "consultant," if they are preparing your claim forms and charging you, the court says they are likely acting illegally.

Massive Impact: It is alleged that over $250 million has been collected from veterans by these unaccredited groups.

Protect Your Benefits: You deserve representation that is accredited, transparent, and protected by federal law.

🛡️ Why Use the VFW?
The VFW offers FREE, professional assistance through our accredited Service Officers. Don’t pay for what you’ve already earned through your service.

Maryland Veterans: If you need help with a claim, reach out to your local VFW Service Officer today. We have your back!

MD State Sr Vice Commander Todd Walter and MD State Surgeon Claudia Walter were guests at the 36th Annual Massing of the Colors on Sunday May 17, 2026 at the Forte Meade Pavilion.

The massing of the colors is a patriotic ceremony dedicated to honoring the flag of the United States and the Service members who have defended it. Co-hosted by the General George G. Meade chapter of Military Order of the World Wars, this 36 annual Memorial Day remembrance honors our fallen heroes, Gold Star Families and the enduring spirit of the American Armed Forces.
