The Joseph and Vera Douglas Family Foundation, Inc. (JVDFF) is a charity organization that provides literacy services, entrepreneurship training for women and health services and resources to families in underserved communities in the US and the Caribbean. Our primary service area is Petersfield, Jamaica; however, we provide services and programs in the United States and other Caribbean countries
(as requested and resources are available). Each year, we complete a missions to Petersfield, Jamaica that focuses on one of our core areas: health & wellbeing, literacy/education and women entrepreneurship. Since our inception, we have completed the following mission trips:
2014: Rehab Petersfield Wesleyan Church PreSchool and distributed personal and home care supplies to 200 families.
2015: Sponsored, cooked and served the lunch program for 100 children attending Vacation Bible School
2016: Distributed food, clothing & first aid kits to 100+ families in the Petersfield community and donated medical supplies to the Petersfield clinic.
2017: cross island books, school supplies and classroom supplies distribution to 6 schools
2018: distributed school supplies, book bags, clasaroom supplies & books in Petersfield community, donated medical supplies to the Petersfield clinic and partnered with Dress for Success Jamaica to host the EmpowerHer Career Summit for women in Kingston & surrounding areas. Sponsored Mothers & Sons Summit in Baltimore, MD.
2019: Launched multiyear classroom library project at Petersfield Primary & Infant School, distributed book bags, school supplies and classroom supplies. Sponsored Mothers & Sons Summit in Baltimore, MD and Saving Our Sons & Daughters Weekend Conference in Kingston.
2020: Partnered with Women in Business International to host quarterly networking events for women in Jamaica & US, contributed to bathroom renovations at Petersfield Primary & Infant School, sponsored teacher cell phone minutes to assist with online instruction, gifted 100+ survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault and other traumatic experiences with holiday gift boxes. Sponsored Mothers & Sons Summit in Baltimore, MD.
2021: [PENDING] Playground build at Petersfield Primary & Infant School, year #2 of classroom library installation, sponsor the Celebrating the Black Family Virtual Weekend, launch STOP Violence Against Women Initiative and fund Staff Appreciation & Wellness activities at Petersfield Primary & Infant School. Sponsor Saving Our Sons & Daughters Weekend in Kingston, Jamaica. Partner with Empowered Women in Business Internation to provide networking and development for entrepreneurs and professionals in US and Jamaica.
