The Joseph and Vera Family Foundation, Inc is committed to changing communities through education, advocacy and community service.

The Joseph and Vera Douglas Family Foundation, Inc. (JVDFF) is a charity organization that provides literacy services, entrepreneurship training for women and health services and resources to families in underserved communities in the US and the Caribbean. Our primary service area is Petersfield, Jamaica; however, we provide services and programs in the United States and other Caribbean countries (as requested and resources are available). Each year, we complete a missions to Petersfield, Jamaica that focuses on one of our core areas: health & wellbeing, literacy/education and women entrepreneurship. Since our inception, we have completed the following mission trips:

2014: Rehab Petersfield Wesleyan Church PreSchool and distributed personal and home care supplies to 200 families.

2015: Sponsored, cooked and served the lunch program for 100 children attending Vacation Bible School

2016: Distributed food, clothing & first aid kits to 100+ families in the Petersfield community and donated medical supplies to the Petersfield clinic.

2017: cross island books, school supplies and classroom supplies distribution to 6 schools

2018: distributed school supplies, book bags, clasaroom supplies & books in Petersfield community, donated medical supplies to the Petersfield clinic and partnered with Dress for Success Jamaica to host the EmpowerHer Career Summit for women in Kingston & surrounding areas. Sponsored Mothers & Sons Summit in Baltimore, MD.

2019: Launched multiyear classroom library project at Petersfield Primary & Infant School, distributed book bags, school supplies and classroom supplies. Sponsored Mothers & Sons Summit in Baltimore, MD and Saving Our Sons & Daughters Weekend Conference in Kingston.

2020: Partnered with Women in Business International to host quarterly networking events for women in Jamaica & US, contributed to bathroom renovations at Petersfield Primary & Infant School, sponsored teacher cell phone minutes to assist with online instruction, gifted 100+ survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault and other traumatic experiences with holiday gift boxes. Sponsored Mothers & Sons Summit in Baltimore, MD.

2021: [PENDING] Playground build at Petersfield Primary & Infant School, year #2 of classroom library installation, sponsor the Celebrating the Black Family Virtual Weekend, launch STOP Violence Against Women Initiative and fund Staff Appreciation & Wellness activities at Petersfield Primary & Infant School. Sponsor Saving Our Sons & Daughters Weekend in Kingston, Jamaica. Partner with Empowered Women in Business Internation to provide networking and development for entrepreneurs and professionals in US and Jamaica.

Only 32% of domestic violence victims in Jamaica make a police report.

This means, there is so much more work to be done to empower, educate & support women before, during and after experiencing the trauma of domestic violence. We need to educate families, business owners, churches, etc so they can recognize the signs early on and can provide the support women experiencing domestic violence need.

Jamaica is doing it's part to address the increasing violence against women but as a country with limited resources, it's going to take Jamaica based & global community organizations banding together and sharing resources to save the lives of women.

We are doing our part to support the fight to end domestic violence through our education and safety workshops for women. We directly support women who've been displaced by domestic violence with care packages from our Comfort Closet Program.

This month we are excited to partner with LaQuisha Hall, Mrs. Maryland Black United States 2027, to restock our Comfort Closet inventory. We are especially looking for period care supplies to make period pouches to distribute to students who need them.

We mourn the passing of Ms. Lluana Wint, a member of our Advisory Council and a staunch supporter of our mission.

Lluana was a bright light and a warm and generous spirit. She was passionate about supporting the education of students from primary to tertiary. She collected school supplies for students in Jamaica and supported nursing students at Brown's Town Community College School of Nursing.

Just a few weeks ago, she expressed interest in supporting a program collaboration we are working on to support young people incarcerated in Jamaica. She felt her school counselor skills would be a great fit. Although she is no longer here to join this new project, we will continue the work in her memory. Her commitment to & love for our homeland will not be forgotten.

We send our deepest condolences to Lluana's family, friends and all those who loved her.

Her light remains.

Last week, we spread some cheer to families with children returning to school. We distributed over 60 bookbags to children including students at Port Maria Primary School, children of officers at Falmouth Police Station & children of nursing students at Brown's Town Community College School of Nursing. Families also received food items and clothing.

We are grateful for our Board Vice President, Dr. Juwlz Pioneer-Nurse Harley for being our mission in action while distributing donations.

Today marks 64 years since Jamaica gained its independence. It is a land filled with hope and promise with a resilient, strong, faith-filled & determined people who have weathered every storm that came their way.

We are proud to serve communities across Jamaica and look forward to serving thos beautiful country and its people for the next 64 years!

Big up to our Board Vice President, Dr. Juwell Harley and family for sorting, packing & distributing book bags, school supplies, food staple items, clothing & reproductive wellness products to nursing students at Brown's Town Community College School of Nursing in St. Ann, Jamaica. Items were distributed to nursing students who have school age children.

We are for every person who made a donation to our Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund or our Support Nursing Students campaign or donated School supplies from our Amazon list.

We gifted 58 children with book bags & schools supplies.

Today is $5 Friday 🎉

$5 Fridays are an opportunity for our community to make a tax deductible donation to the work we are doing here & in Jamaica by making a donation of at least $5.

❤️ Mission in Action Trip: our MIA team will be heading to Jamaica in September for a 2 projects related to our Hurricane Melissa Relief efforts. Normally volunteers cover their own travel expenses, but this year that is a challenge. So we are asking our community to help us raise the $2,000 that is needed to help cover the remaining costs for our team.

🌧 Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund: it's been 9 months since Hurricane Melissa landed in Jamaica and devastated hundreds of communities leaving thousands without a home, food & personal belongings. Since Melissa hit Jamaica's shores, we have raised over $7k and helped 200+ families with food, clothing, personal care items, schools supplies & water. The holidays are approaching and we would like to gift some families with a Christmas basket so they can make Christmas dinner for their families and have a joyful Christmas.

🐥 Chicks & Feed Initiative: farms were devastated across the western end of the island. Farmers growing crops and raising livestock for milk and meat lost their entire farms. We are launching this program to support women farmers who lost their livelihood and need a helping hand to restart. This program will also support women who are looking for a way to generate income to support their families.
