Decoration Day originated after the Civil War as a day to honor soldiers that had been killed in battle by placing flowers at their graves. After World War I, people began calling it Memorial Day, and it was made a federal holiday in 1971. Today we honor those who have lost their lives in service to their country.

At The Book Thing we have an entire non-fiction section devoted to books about war. Here's a sample of the books on these shelves (and a little Ken Burns 🎶 tribute). Stop by the Green Room next time you're here and honor our veterans by learning a little bit about their service. 🇺🇸
