WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
At The Book Thing, we rely on donated books and hundreds of hours of our volunteers’ time to put unwanted books into the hands of those who want them, for free. But even with our commitment to reduce, re-use, and recycle, we still require an annual operating budget to maintain our facility, pay our small staff, care for Eleanor, keep the lights and heat on, and run giveaway days. Our funding comes from grants, individual donations, the sales of a tiny fraction of our books, and the generous support of patrons like you.
That's why we're inviting you to attend our annual benefit: Booktoberfest 2026, held on October 15th at Peabody Heights Brewery, right across the street from The Book Thing. Your $25 ticket gets you two free drink coupons (b**r, c***r, or non-alcoholic drinks available), tickets to our Spin Game giveaway, and an evening of live music and fabulous literary company (that is, friends of The Book Thing). The proceeds go entirely towards our operating costs. Tickets are on sale on our Givebutter page; link in the comments or on our main events page.
