Loyola Center for Neighborhood Resilience Collaborating with neighbors and partners to produce positive change in our York Road community (formerly named the York Road Initiative)

The York Road Initiative aims to improve the quality of life for all persons living, working, and learning in the York Road corridor by building civic capacity, strengthening the commercial corridor, and enhancing education and youth development. Partnering with neighbors and others, we focus on the educational development, health, and well-being of community residents, as well as upon the economic capability of our neighborhoods, including its residential and retail establishments.

Join us for the launch of the Rooted in Trust Program (RIT)! The RIT Program will include community listening sessions, a steward leadership development program, a summer youth program, and the development of several neighborhood greening and public space activation project sites along York Road in Baltimore City with the goal of bridging divides across differences.

🪏🌳🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒Join us for two information sessions (All are welcome!!) Both will be held at 5104 York Road in the new Loyola Community Center (front middle section of larger building on the lot).
August 27th: 5:30 pm-7:00 pm
September 8th: 6:30 pm-8:00 pm

🏡🪏🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒We are also looking for residents interested in serving on the RIT Advisory Council. This the the overarching advisory group for the project. Applications are due September 15th. More information on the role of the council will be available at RIT information sessions!

The Rooted in Trust Program is a collaboration between Loyola University Maryland, the York Road Partnership, York Road Improvement District and the Govans-Boundary Parish United Methodist Church and is funded by the Alliance for Social Trust of the Aspen Institute and the Allstate Foundation.

TODAY! Every year the Govans Farmers Market & Govans Community Refrigerator offers a Back-to-School event for the community.

The and Call to Action Church will take over the resource area offering free books, food and other school supplies. The York Road Partnership Youth Committee and several of their youth-serving partners will be on hand. Come on out today with your family, and enjoy shopping with our local vendors!

Next week Summer Meals Program sites launch across the city.

Along York Road there are both school-based and community-based locations.

Community-based:

Loyola Community-University Center (5104 York Road--Larger Building, Middle section with windows)
LUNCH ONLY: 11:00 AM-12:30 PM; Monday-Friday; June 22nd-August 21 No service July 3rd or July 6th

Northern CAP Center (5225 York Road--Walk through black gate)
BREAKFAST 9:00 AM-10:00 AM; LUNCH: 12:00PM-2:00 PM; Monday-Friday; June 22nd-August 21; No service July 3rd

There are many school-based locations across the city. Many school locations serve breakfast and lunch Monday-Thursday.

Strawberries are ready!! Please read full post and SHARE to help us spread the word...

We will open our farm market for the 2026 season with ready-picked strawberries ONLY starting tomorrow, Thursday, May 28th at 8 am to 6 pm. Our regular weekday hours will be Monday through Friday 8-6 and Saturday 8-5.

We will offer PICK YOUR OWN strawberries beginning this Saturday at 8:00 am, HOWEVER, pick your own hours might be limited due to early strawberry supply.

While we anticipate a lot of strawberries this season, many of them need more sun and warmer temperatures to continue ripening. Please be aware that the first few days of pick your own will operate as a "while supplies last" event. Please check Facebook for regular updates as the situation can change quickly based on the weather.
