Today Delta shift held their training burns with the new F3 foam at our burn pit. Crews continued testing new application techniques and learning how the new foam will react with fuel fed fires. Crews used hand lines as well as the crash truck to to apply the foam. The switch to the new foam has been a learning curve as it is not the same as the previous AFFF in how it reacts.

Local 1742 is lucky to be one of the few sites that still uses Jet-A to train with vs propane fed props. We get to see first hand at our property how techniques work where many other jurisdictions have to travel and book trainings with fuel fed fires.

Today marks the end of an era for local 1742, BWI FRD and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Our senior man, Driver/operator Don Ell finished his last shift. Brother Ell began his career July 1, 1987 and he has continuously served the patrons of BWI and the citizens of the surrounding area. Brother Ell has always stood as a steadfast leader in our local and the department.

It is only appropriate as he has provided many water arch salutes over his career that we would send him off in the same manner.

Please join us in wishing Brother Don Ell a happy and long retirement after a great career of service.
