Charm City Land Trusts Charm City Land Trusts is a community land trust located in Baltimore City. CCLT’s latest project is the development of permanently affordable housing.

Charm City Land Trusts (CCLT) was incorporated on October 2, 2000 by a group of community residents in East Baltimore with the intention of creating healthy, vibrant neighborhoods of opportunity. CCLT’s first project was the preservation of an urban forest in the northcentral Baltimore neighborhood of Woodberry. Over the next decade, CCLT focused on the acquisition, preservation, and stewardship o

f 19 parcels in East Baltimore, known as the Amazing Port Street Commons. The Commons are a reflective space containing community gardens, a labyrinth, and mural artwork created by the late Pontella Mason. They are open to the public and often host community gatherings, including the annual Spring Fling organized by the McElderry Park Community Association and the Amazing Port Street Celebration organized by the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. The Sacred Commons are emblematic of CCLT’s core values: the holding of land in common, stewarding space for the benefit of all, and providing occasion for collective healing and reflection. Having acquired its first house on the 500 block of North Luzerne Avenue, CCLT will harness its resources to ensure that development is guided by fair development practices, including the hiring and training of local residents. The indoor seed starting session (Part 1) happened today. We cut, filled, seeded, labeled and taped rinsed, repurposed milk, juice & water bottles. These will go outside without the tops, so rain and snow can get in.
As spring approaches, these seeds will have a chance to germinate earlier than direct down seeds because the jugs give them an insulated head start. That means food will grow earlier, ready sooner to be shared with the community.
