“The War on Drugs and the War on Homelessness are on a collision course that no one in the media or in public life are willing to acknowledge. Ostensibly aimed at decreasing the use of illegal drugs, the War on Drugs succeeds only in increasing homelessness.”
― Thomas Stephen Szasz

“Although both home and mental illness are complex, modern ideas, we have fallen into the habit of using phrases such as "housing the homeless" and "treating the mentally ill" as if we knew what counts as housing a homeless person or what it means to treat mental illness. But we do not. We have deceived ourselves that having a home and being mentally healthy are our natural conditions, and that we become homeless or mentally ill as a result of "losing" our homes or our minds. The opposite is the case. We are born without a home and without reason, and have to exert ourselves and are fortunate if we succeed in building a secure home and a sound mind.”

"One of the great liabilities of history is that all too many people fail to remain awake through great periods of social change. Every scociety has its protectors of the status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. But today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake. To adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. The large house in which we live demands that we transform this worldwide neighborhood into a worldwide brotherhood. We must learn to live together as brothers or we will be forced to perish as fools." -Martin Luther King

The problem is that the majority of people that NEED to be aware of this page and others like it won't. They are busy in survival mode, have given up, or disabled in some way (including drug addiction). It is our duty to make them aware of these things. Their rights, their options, the decisions that are being made about and for them without their knowledge.

I urge all of you here that if you know someone who is homeless make them aware, educate or whatever you have to do. I urge you to bring your ideas and concerns forward. Homelessness is not about race, although from my own eyes i have seen that the Africans in America make up the majority of the homeless population in inner cities.

If squatters have taken over your property, keep your cool: They've got a lot more rights than you may realize. How do squatters operate, and how can you get them off your land?
