Spotlight on Elazar Zavaletta (he/they) Good Trouble Church Elazar Zavaletta
Meet Elazar, a trans, nonbinary, and mestizo individual, and the founding pastor of Good Trouble Church in Baltimore. Leading a grassroots congregation centered on liberation, harm reduction, and community care, Elazar actively works to decolonize Christianity. As the first known transmasculine and nonbinary person of color ordained in the ELCA, their call is to uplift forgotten communities and raise leaders from the margins. Elazar envisions a community where the despised find belonging and justice, drawing on trans/q***r and indigenous legacies. Their work focuses on creating liberated structures and decolonizing the church.

Spotlight on Bee Page (they/them) Good Trouble Church

Meet Bee, a trans advocate driven by a quest for authentic community and belonging. Originating from Texas, Bee felt isolated as a trans person, and upon moving to Baltimore, their mission became living authentically and fostering safety within the trans community. Engaging in community work, Bee emphasizes an educational aspect, breaking down barriers and showcasing shared struggles with non-trans individuals. Bee's significant focus lies in dismantling oppressive systems, intertwining struggles of housing insecurity, ableism, and transgender experiences. Humble yet impactful, Bee contributes to Baltimore's mutual aid systems, highlighting the profound need for unity and support, especially during uncertain times for the trans community.

Merrick's work spans interfaith realms, making a significant impact on transgender communities.

Spotlight on Renee Lau (she/her) Renee Michelle Lau

Meet Renee, a resilient advocate for Baltimore's transgender community. During her own transition, she found support through Maryland Safe Haven. Now, Renee, Director of Senior and Disabled Housing, brings personal insight into her work. Motivated by her own experiences with gender dysphoria, she feels a deep obligation to support the transgender community. Doing the work in Baltimore means facing dangers with resilience. She's fought for trans equality alongside leaders like Iya Dammons, advocated for HIV decriminalization, and marched for reform. Keyanna is here, ready to carry the torch for the next generation.

Meet Rahne, a passionate advocate for the transgender community in Baltimore. Drawing on her experience as a performer, she views connecting with audiences as a form of community building, emphasizing the importance of bridging gaps between trans and non-trans, as well as q***r and non-q***r audiences. Meet britt, a dedicated advocate for the transgender community in Baltimore. Despite working in DC, britt actively engages with trans individuals across Maryland and Virginia, intentionally building relationships in Baltimore to better understand and support the local community. As a white trans person, they emphasize listening, learning, and leveraging their resources to address the unique challenges faced by the transgender community in the city.
