Spotlight on Elazar Zavaletta (he/they) Good Trouble Church Elazar Zavaletta
Meet Elazar, a trans, nonbinary, and mestizo individual, and the founding pastor of Good Trouble Church in Baltimore. Leading a grassroots congregation centered on liberation, harm reduction, and community care, Elazar actively works to decolonize Christianity. As the first known transmasculine and nonbinary person of color ordained in the ELCA, their call is to uplift forgotten communities and raise leaders from the margins. Elazar envisions a community where the despised find belonging and justice, drawing on trans/q***r and indigenous legacies. Their work focuses on creating liberated structures and decolonizing the church.
