If you or a loved one are struggling, call or text 988 today, or chat with a counselor at 988lifeline.org. (BCRI) is the city's first and only comprehensive crisis center. Since 1992 we have helped many individuals overcome mental health and substance use disorders, regardless of ability to pay. The services BCRI provides include operation of a call center, mental health/substance use residential

treatment programs, mobile response teams, law enforcement-assisted diversion (LEAD), and partnering with Baltimore police on how to best handle mental health situations without the use of force. With a mission to provide timely and effective community-based services in the least restrictive environment, BCRI works in partnership with other providers to create new and innovative ways to serve this vulnerable population.

We were grateful to welcome 2026 attendees for a site visit and discussions on leveraging partnership, philanthropy and advocacy to transform crisis care in Baltimore and around Maryland.

Visits like these remind us that systems do not transform from a distance. They transform when people are willing to listen closely, see the work up close, ask better questions, and partner with communities in ways that are practical, respectful, and sustained.
