What a night. What a celebration. And most importantly, what a community.

This weekend, we celebrated 40 years of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce—four decades of opening doors, creating opportunities, building relationships, and strengthening Maryland’s business community.

The room was filled with business owners, entrepreneurs, community leaders, partners, friends, and changemakers. We celebrated accomplishments, made new connections, danced, laughed, and created memories we’ll carry with us long after the Gala.

But Saturday wasn’t only about celebrating the last 40 years.

It was about everything we’re building next—together.

We join our community in mourning the passing of Marisela Villamil, a remarkable advocate for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
For many years, Marisela generously shared her knowledge, wisdom, and unwavering commitment through the SBDC, helping countless business owners navigate challenges, pursue opportunities, and turn their dreams into reality. Many members of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce were fortunate to benefit from her thoughtful guidance, resourcefulness, and genuine desire to see others succeed.
Marisela's impact extends far beyond the businesses she advised. She leaves behind a legacy of service, mentorship, and empowerment that will continue to inspire our entrepreneurial community for years to come.

The Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MDHCC) is proud to celebrate our very own President & CEO, Marco V. Ávila, P.E., on being recognized in the 2026 The Daily Record in the category.

This prestigious recognition honors Maryland's most and impactful leaders across , , , , and beyond. With more than 40 years of engineering excellence, Marco has played a vital role in shaping critical infrastructure projects throughout the region as Vice President, Civil Engineer, and Program Manager at WSP USA, contributing to major , , , and public-private partnership initiatives.

Beyond his remarkable professional achievements, Marco's commitment to service and impact continues to inspire us all. Through his of the , along with his work founding The Healing Hands Foundation and Golfers For Charity, INC Foundation, he has dedicated himself to creating , strengthening , and future .

When asked about the greatest challenge facing the engineering profession today, Marco highlighted the urgent need to inspire more young people to pursue careers in engineering, technology, and STEM fields. His passion for and development reflects his belief that investing in future leaders is essential for our industry's success.

Marco often shares the best advice he has ever received:
