We, as Russian-speaking Jews, often feel ourselves Russian, Ukrainian, Belorussian, Kazakhstanian, while also Jewish, American, Israeli, you name it!
That’s why we started the Jewish Matryoshka Project. A space for Russian-speaking (or interested) Jewish families to connect, access resources in the Jewish community and connect with Israel. We’re creating a space where you can share in Jewish and Russian tradition, enjoy books and events catered to our unique culture and make new friends (that don’t require an explanation about your New Years Tree or your love of gefilte fish!).
We felt that a matryoshka was the perfect representation of our complex family identities. Because like the matryoshka of many layers, our identities run far richer and more meaningful than who we appear to be on the surface. And those identities play a tremendous role in the children we raise and the families we nurture.
“Like” us, “Follow” us, invite your friends and tell us what events you want to see especially made with your family in mind! We can’t wait to meet you!
This program is made possible with the generous support of PJ Library and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation in partnership with Genesis Philanthropy Group as well as The Luise D. and Morton J. Macks Center for Jewish Education and the Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore.
