Emelda: “I left my full-time job in 2015 and started my journey as a creative entrepreneur. I used to be at the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts and by that time I had been in a series of jobs that were not my calling.
I also left that job because my daughter, who has specialized health needs, started to have problems with sleep. I was working full-time, homeschooling her and in grad school. It was overwhelming.
I feel like God always gives us signs and it was just sign after sign that it was time for me to move on and do something new and different.
After leaving my job, I did a lot of freelance writing and activist work through my other Instagram page: . Pray with Our Feet has evolved into a podcast and community that uplifts at the intersection of progressive Christian faith and activism.
I wasn’t as overwhelmed with work anymore, but I felt isolated. I couldn't just get up and go to a museum, or a play. I couldn’t hang out with friends, and so those friendships started to dissolve.
I talked to God about it, about the gifts I have in me and how I wanted to give and share them in community with other women. I wanted to know how I could do that from home while caring for my daughter.
Connecting with other women online was the answer to that prayer and the start of the community now known as Women Creatives Chat…
In 2017, three other women and I hosted the first in-person event for Women Creatives Chat. The event was centered around creative women using their voices, caring for themselves and coming together as a community."**
