This piece makes a great case for express MARC service between DC and Baltimore. Let's do it!

Express trains between Baltimore and Washington, DC would cut the travel time between the cities in half, putting hundreds of thousands of jobs within reach for Baltimoreans and helping Washingtonians escape one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. The trains, the tracks they run on...

Last Thursday, standing in front of the West Baltimore MARC Station, Governor Moore announced the happy news that he is reviving the Red Line. The Red Line will give people improved east-west mobility within Baltimore: from Woodlawn, to Downtown, to Bayview.

Also - because it will tie in, at West Baltimore, to the MARC Penn Line (already a powerful north-south connector from DC to Baltimore and points north) - it will put the DC-area job market within reach of more Baltimoreans AND make Baltimore City much more accessible for Marylanders up and down the Penn Line. Leveraging existing transit infrastructure in this way will further boost the positive impact of this long-overdue project.

Let's put the shovel in the ground!

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore plans to revive the east-way transit line canceled by his predecessor eight years ago, but whether it will be a light rail or a rapid bus system remains unclear.

MARC trains will go from here to Washington in 30 minutes. On an average weekday that will eliminate nearly 7 hours a day."

We signed this letter to the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board, urging the board to stop adding new highway capacity projects into the project pipeline and to shift spending toward maintenance, transit, ADA, and bike infrastructure in their Transportation Improvement Program, which is a short-range planning and construction program that allows the Baltimore region to access federal funds for transportation projects. We need to get our priorities right!

"In November, President Biden signed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act . . . which allocates $1.2 trillion to transform the country’s infrastructure. This presents a huge opportunity for the Baltimore region . . . to accelerate the transit and rail investments."

The Greater Baltimore Committee and the Greater Washington Partnership have collaborated to develop a set of six priorities for “Baltimore’s Transit Future.”
