Thank you for checking out Portney's Confectionery, a store in Baltimore, Maryland in 1933.

We don't know much about it as only a single picture is known to exist, but this picture contains loads of information if who do some detective work.

Where was Portney's Confectionery?

Well, family history says that it was somewhere in Washington D.C. However, there is some evidence that it was in Baltimore.

The photographer (from a stamp on the back of the picture) was "Adam's Photo Service" in Baltimore

The 2 movie posters in the picture are for theaters in Baltimore

Given what we see in the movie advertisements in the picture, it's pretty conclusive that the true date on the picture is April 5, 1933.

There is an advertisement for the movie "Manhattan Tower" in the window behind the baby carriage.

The movie starred Mary Brian, star of "Blessed Event" and "Hard to Handle"

"Manhattan Tower" was released 12/1/32
"Hard to Handle" was released 1/28/33
"Blessed Event" was released 9/10/32

The movie was being shown at the "Maryland Theater" at Franklin and Howard Streets in Baltimore
