This article highlights how shared governance, data-driven design, and frontline nurse feedback reduced clicks, streamlined assessments, and created more time for patient care.

Worth a read for anyone interested in the intersection of workflow, documentation, and well-being

“When I started my shift, I used to spend over an hour documenting before I even touched a patient."

This statement will resonate with many nurses, as it is not uncommon to see EHR workflows that do not align with day-to-day clinical routines. Nurses deserve workflows that support us! This article highlights how one health system partnered with nurses to redesign digital workflows—with impressive results: less time spent charting, more time with patients, and improved nurse well-being. A must-read for nurse leaders, informatics professionals, and anyone passionate about reducing burnout.

Big news: The Joint Commission is rolling out an AI Best Practices Certification with CHAI.

This isn’t about chasing shiny tech, it’s about making sure AI tools in healthcare are safe, fair, and actually help patients.

Would your org be ready for this?
Or are we still figuring out where to even start?

As artificial intelligence (AI) use expands in healthcare settings, there is a push to identify and disseminate best practices as well as create certification and accreditation programs around it. The Joint Commission and the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) are partnering to accelerate the development and adoption of AI best practices and guidance across the U.S. healthcare system.

Who else is enjoying Summer Institute in Nursing Informatics?!?! Marc Perkins-Carrillo just knocked it out of the park with his presentation! The AI governance in nursing structure was particularly interesting! Its encouraging to see how his organization is driving transparency, clinical value, and ethics in tech adoption, all while advocating that nursing voices at the AI table matter more than ever!!!

Looking forward to what's coming up next on the agenda!

🩺 Just Because We Can Doesn’t Mean We Should (Document It)

Nurses, let’s be honest, just because it fits in a checkbox doesn’t mean it belongs in the chart.

We’ve built documentation systems with all the bells, whistles, and enough fields to launch a rocket. But here’s the thing:
✅ More clicks ≠ better care
✅ More notes ≠ more meaning
✅ “Patient resting comfortably” ≠ what really happened during the code

It’s time we ask:
👉 Does this add value to the patient or just clutter the record?
👉 Does it reflect what actually happened?
👉 Is this helping nurses, or just padding the chart like it’s on a LinkedIn résumé?

We’re not saying no to tech, we’re saying yes to intention.
đź’ˇ Less redundancy. More reflection.
đź’ˇ Less performance. More purpose.
đź’ˇ Less charting everything. More charting what counts.

Because the goal isn’t to impress the EHR. It’s to care for people, and not burn out while doing it.

Anyone else feel this way?

Why does one click feel effortless and another feel like a full stop?

Some clicks just flow. Others feel like they interrupt everything. It’s not about the number of clicks, it’s about the friction.

The smooth ones are built around how we actually work. The frustrating ones? Usually not.

As informaticists, we should be asking:
🧠 Where does it feel intuitive?
⚠️ Where does it slow us down?

It’s not just about making tech work, it’s about making it work for us.
