Thank you, Book Fair at Bel Air for having us! We’re so grateful for the opportunity to raise funds for the animals in our care, and we appreciate everyone who stopped by to shop or to check through our book of adoptable AARFies. Thank you also to the volunteers who tabled the event for making this possible!

Wowee zowie, we’ve got a statistical anomaly! Even though only 20% of orange cats are female, 4 out of 8 orange cats AARF currently has in foster are. Peaches is fluffy, Valerie has short hair, and Chumba and Wumba are nearly identical dilute orange sisters!

Do you need a gorgeous ginger in your life? Bring one (or two!) of these lovely ladies home!

Hi! I’m Athena. My foster mom told me there are a lot of people out there rooting for me, which is real nice. She also said it’s International Cat Day! Wow. I thought that was every day? Anyway, I wanted to say thank you for thinking of me. I’m doing much better now with my foster mom, who takes care of me and tells me I’m beautiful AND brave, which is nice but I did already know that. She also says I’m part of this special group of people and animals called AARF and that there are over 4,000 other AARF cats! That’s pretty neat. I’m glad to be here, and I’m glad you’re here too. Happy International Cat Day! Don’t forget to celebrate tomorrow, too.

We all know that you shouldn’t judge a book by the cover, but a good book cover inspires you to learn more. Can they do the same for these adoptable AARFies?

These canines and felines span genres, but they all have one thing in common: they’re still waiting on their happy ending to be written.

Visit AARF’s website to read the inside cover on these adoptable AARFies and more!

At just a year old, Wrinkles arrived at BARCS Animal Shelter in frightening condition – she was deathly ill, with a visibly wounded eye. X-rays showed metal pellets lodged throughout her body: two in her skull, another in her neck, and two more in her chest. Her wounded eye looked like it was weeping, but despite her grave condition, Wrinkles showed herself to be a brave, loving cat. In her intake photo, she has arched her back toward the photographer, calling out for love.

Everyone who has heard her call has responded – BARCS, the veterinary team treating her, and now we’re proud to say, AARF. In our care she has adopted a new name: Athena, for the Greek god of war, because her survival is a declaration of war against animal abusers. But this war is one of love. Love for the innocent animals who depend on us for their safety. Despite everything she has been through at their hands, Athena still has love for humans. Now, finally, she’s safe – as she always should have been.

We’re so glad we get to love you, little warrior ❤️ You can contribute to Athena’s ongoing medical care as she recovers from eye enucleation, anemia, and a heart murmur.

What’s better than one cat? Two cats!

Adopting two cats at once means your feline friend will have their own feline friend built in, which can help them settle in to their new home, keep each other company while you’re away, and in the case of kittens, help them learn important social lessons like “don’t bite me don’t bite me don’t bite me!” (Do YOU want to have to teach that lesson?)

Dynamic Duos pictured in order:
Chumba & Wumba
Bambi & Flower
Blaze & Coby
Daisy & Angus
Sabine & Beignet
Tutti & Fruiti

Additional duos not pictured:
Bacon & Sausage
Jordan & Sutton
Joely & Lili

We talk a lot about what we’re able to do – the much needed medical procedures animals get, the freedom rides, the AARFily Ever Afters. But what we can’t do is just as important.

Yesterday, our partners at Cecil County Animal Services reached out about two dogs, Lady Luna and Darla. Both were sweet with other dogs. Both fit the AARF profile: small with personality. We wanted to say yes to both of them… but we only had a foster placement for one.

Every day we have to say no to animals who deserve to receive a yes. It doesn’t have anything to do with them! But we’re not a shelter – we cannot take a dog without a foster placement. Many of the dogs we take come to us specifically because we are foster based, and they need a home environment to receive medical treatment, or because they were stressed in the shelter, or simply because the shelter is overrun.

It doesn’t take a lot to be a foster, and AARF is with you every step of the way. If you have room in your heart and home for an animal in need, please apply to become a foster. Fosters provide a safe space, love, food, and transportation to medical visits and adoption events – AARF takes care of the rest.

🦷 Three Dogs. Three Dentals. One Very Busy Tooth Fairy

Unfortunately, Gumbo, Fiona, and Wilson won’t find a few dollars under their pillows - but they are getting something much better: the chance to have healthier mouths and feel their very best.

This month, three of our dogs are scheduled for dental procedures, and while a dental may not sound as exciting as a rescue story, it can be one of the most life-changing medical treatments we provide. Dental disease is painful. It can make eating difficult, lead to infections, and affect a dog's overall health.

Meet the trio:

🐾 Gumbo – Our sweet 12-year-old gentleman who was found abandoned in a vacant home in Baltimore City. When Gumbo came to AARF, he needed extensive medical care. After bloodwork, treatment for multiple infections, lots of TLC, and finally putting on much-needed weight, he's healthy enough for his long-awaited dental. We already know he's likely to need extractions, and we're looking forward to helping him feel so much better.

🐾 Fiona – This tiny little sweetheart is pulling double duty! If all goes according to plan, she'll be spayed while she's under anesthesia for her dental procedure. One trip to the operating room means less stress for Fiona and gets her one step closer to finding her forever family.

🐾 Wilson – This adorable little guy is also due for his dental. Like so many rescue dogs, years of neglected dental care have caught up with him, and it's time to give him the healthy smile he deserves.

One of the hardest parts about planning for dental procedures is that we never know exactly what we'll find until the veterinarian gets started. X-rays often reveal hidden problems beneath the gumline, and the number, location, and complexity of extractions can significantly affect the final cost. Every dental is a little different, making it difficult to predict expenses ahead of time.

But one thing is certain: these three dogs deserve to live without dental pain.

If you'd like to help Gumbo, Fiona, and Wilson get the care they need, please consider making a donation. Every gift - large or small - helps us provide the medical care that neglected dogs deserve.

❤️ You can also help by sharing this post. The more people who see our work, the more lives we can save.

Thank you for helping us give these three dogs a healthier, happier future.
