The A. Hoen & Co. Lithograph Building

The A. Hoen & Co. Lithograph Building Once one of the largest lithograph printing companies in the world, Hoen & Co will be transformed into a space for innovation and growth in East Baltimore.

Founded by Edward Weber and August Hoen in 1839, the A. Hoen & Company produced the first color cards in the United States. In 1842, Hoen & Co. printed the first lithographic maps and by the 1850’s was the largest producer of to***co labels in the western hemisphere. During its peak, Hoen employed over 250 people and continued production until around 1981 when it dissolved after filing for bankrup

tcy. The building has sat vacant ever since. The Hoen Building is a spectacular example of a late 19th century industrial facility and will be redeveloped as a certified historic preservation project. A slate roof, timber framing, double hung windows, arched openings and a granite base reflect the building’s historic character. Cross Street Partners has extensive experience restoring historic buildings and plans to display lithograph printings and other artifacts to enhance the building’s historic character.
