This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the people helping create safer, more compassionate communities. 🩵
Meet JaVon Townsend, LCSW-C (she/her/hers), founder and principal consultant of VIVID Consulting (.vivid.life).
JaVon is a wellness consultant, artist, and birth worker who empowers leaders and high-achievers to thrive in and out of the workplace through connection and creativity. Through her work, she helps people reconnect with themselves beyond productivity culture.
💭What inspired you to blend creativity and wellness in your work?
“Our society overemphasizes the idea of ‘productivity’ as a measure of a person’s worth. As a result, many of us learn to limit creativity to something you do as an ‘add-on’ to regular life. In reality, creativity is a drive that exists in all of us and expressing ourselves creatively is a need we all have. In working with high achievers, I found that utilizing creativity helped break through cognitive blocks and allowed people to reconnect with their true selves.”
💭What inspired you to create The Writer’s Well?
“A few years ago, I hosted a space called Collective Creativity to give people in my network time to do anything creative. Each time, participants shared how helpful it was to have a dedicated time to be creative and to connect with the other people in the space.
As a writer, I know firsthand how isolating writing can be, and I know that we can sometimes get into our heads, preventing us from actually writing. I wanted to take dedicated time and space for connection of Collective Creativity and added the support of facilitating mind-body skills to help folks clear creative blocks. I offered the first Writer’s Well during National Novel Writing Month (November) in 2024 and we’ve been meeting ever since.”
💭What do people often discover about themselves in that space?
“Folks who join The Writer’s Well often share that the space impacts their personal lives in ways they wouldn’t expect. On the surface, it’s just a block of time to write. Below the surface, it’s about honoring your personhood and parts of your identity by prioritizing time to create. (Continued in comments)
