St. Aloysius Gonzaga gave up a noble inheritance to become a Jesuit - and spent his short life (he died at 23) nursing plague victims in Rome.

He is the patron of youth and of those who care for the sick and vulnerable.

His life poses a question to every generation: What are you willing to give up in order to serve?

For young Catholics looking to live their faith with purpose and community, the Order of Alhambra is open to all Catholics 18 and older. You don't need a résumé; just a heart for service and a desire to belong to something bigger than yourself.

Know a young Catholic who's searching for that? Tag them or share this post.

Congratulations to Ben Ziri Caravan #218 on welcoming two new members during their Initiation Ceremonial on Saturday, June 13, in San Diego!

Following the ceremonial, members attended a special Mass celebrated by the Most Rev. Felipe Pulido, Auxiliary Bishop of San Diego, in honor of the Order of Alhambra and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It was a wonderful day of faith, fellowship, and celebration. Welcome to our newest members, and enjoy the photos from a great day with friends old and new!

Today the Church celebrates the Ascension - the moment Christ rose beyond sight and, as he left, gave his disciples a commission: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.”
The Ascension is not a farewell. It is a sending.
The disciples stood on that hillside looking up, and then they got to work.

That is what Ascension asks of us every year: stop looking up and start moving out.

The Order of Alhambra has been answering that call since 1904 - serving people with intellectual disabilities, preserving Catholic heritage, and building communities of lasting friendship in His name.

We are still going. Are you ready to join us?

On May 13, 1917, three shepherd children in Portugal saw a vision that would change the Church.

Our Lady of Fátima asked for prayer, penance, and consecration - not because God is distant, but because love always asks something of us.

Over 100 years later, her message is no less urgent. The world still needs people willing to show up in faith, to serve quietly, and to pray with conviction.

The Order of Alhambra was built by people who heard that same call and answered it in service to those with intellectual disabilities. This month, answer a call of your own.

On Earth Day, Catholics are reminded that care for creation and care for the vulnerable are the same calling.

Pope Francis put it simply: we cannot love our neighbor while neglecting the world we share with them - and we cannot care for the earth while ignoring the people who depend on it.

At the Order of Alhambra, we've spent 121 years doing both: preserving sacred history and serving those with intellectual disabilities, because both matter to God. If you share that conviction, there's a place for you in our Order.

Today the Church celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday - the feast St. Faustina Kowalska received in a vision and St. John Paul II proclaimed for the universal Church.

The message is not subtle. Eight days after Easter, with the Alleluia still fresh, the Church stops to say: the mercy of God is wider than any sin, any failure, any wound you carry.

"Jesus, I trust in You." That is the whole prayer. That is enough.

For the Order of Alhambra, Divine Mercy Sunday speaks directly to the people we serve. Every person with an intellectual disability reflects the image of a God who loves without condition, who values beyond measure, who sees what the world misses.

If you want to live out that mercy in a community of faith, we would love to have you.

ALLELUIA!

He is not here - He is risen, just as He said.

On this most glorious morning, the Order of Alhambra rejoices with the whole Church. The Cross was not the end. Death did not have the final word.

Every act of service we give in His name - every camp, every scholarship, every moment of dignity we offer to someone the world undervalues - finds its ultimate meaning HERE. In the Resurrection, every human life is declared worth dying for.

To our members, our friends, our families, and everyone we serve: a most blessed and joyful Easter.

Ready to put your faith to work this Easter Season? The Order of Alhambra welcomes Catholics 18+ who want to serve, fellowship, and make a difference.
