💙 Goodbye, Safe House. Thank you for the memories.
Five years ago, Banner Neighborhoods Community Corporation opened our Preston Street community center.
The young people who spent time there gave it a name that said it all: The Safe House.
And it truly was.
Thanks to an investment of more than $700,000, it became a vibrant space for East Baltimore residents of all ages.
❤️ Youth came to learn, grow, build friendships, explore careers through YouthWorks, try different sports, and receive mentorship.
💙 Older adults gathered for Senior Prom, Bingo and Music Bingo, wellness workshops, educational programs, holiday celebrations, and meaningful connection.
For five years, it was more than a building—it was community.
Last Friday, we held our final YouthWorks and Go Kids Go summer camp programs in the Safe Haven.
While it’s heartbreaking to leave, rising costs and nearly doubled rent make it no longer sustainable.
The Safe House is closing, but Banner’s mission continues.
💙 Thank you to everyone who made it special.
💙 Thank you to WJZ for helping share our story.
