The organization focuses primarily on assisting people in Liberia, West Africa. Women Organized Resources for Liberia's Development Inc. (W.O.R.L.D., Inc.) was established September 1990 in Baltimore, Maryland by a few Liberians and Americans under the able leadership of the late Mrs. Rachel Pearce-Marshall. As a 501(c) non-profit, tax-exempt organization, all donations are tax refundable. For the
past twenty three (23) years we have been working with women and children in Liberia who were devastated by the fourteen-year civil unrest. Over these years WORLD, Inc. has been active in the community to educate and serve children and families, provide humanitarian relief, and work collaboratively to provide programs/services related to healthcare, social services, and economic sustenance. On going activities include:
-Ebola awareness fundraisers & donation drives
-Annual Day of the African Child Program
-Christmas Party for Liberian Children
-Annual Meeting Program, Memorial Service and fundraising Luncheon
- Placing girls in family oriented homes
-Working on establishing a girls home
-Toys and Clothes Drive
-Scholarships for five students donated to St. Stephan's Episcopal Church Educational Fund annually
-Sending medical supplies to Liberia
Community engagement, empowerment, and development over the years have included providing the following resources/services:
-counseling services for street children and child soldiers in Liberia
-providing school supplies and toys for schools , a day care center, and a foster home in Liberia
-providing support for twenty-nine (29) students in Liberia through grants to attend school and for daily living expenses
-hosting three (3) income generating workshops for women in Liberia
-providing financial assistance to an adult literacy program in Liberia
-providing seed money to women's group ranging from US$50 to $300 to start and/or strengthen their small businesses
-providing medical services, medicines, and high protein food items and other humanitarian aid for children and displaced families in Sierra Leone & Liberia in 1991
-building six (6) pit latrines (4 in Liberia and 2 in Ghana)
