SMPS Maryland’s Proposals Bootcamp continued with an engaging and insightful session led by Laura Werther, CPSM, Principal at GWWO Architects and SMPS Maryland Treasurer. Laura challenged attendees to rethink how proposals are developed, designed, and delivered by encouraging a shift from template-driven responses to strategic, client-focused narratives that clearly communicate a firm’s unique value. Drawing on nearly three decades of experience, she shared practical techniques for elevating proposals through storytelling, intentional design, and thoughtful customization.
Key takeaways included:
✨ Move beyond templates by tailoring each proposal to the client, project, and selection criteria
📖 Use storytelling to transform qualifications into compelling, relatable narratives
🎨 Design with purpose, ensuring layout, graphics, and structure enhance clarity and reinforce key messages
🚀 Clearly differentiate your firm by highlighting what truly sets your team apart
Attendees walked away with actionable strategies to create more engaging, memorable, and effective proposals—reinforcing that strong proposals are not just compliant documents, but powerful tools for winning work.
Thank you to Laura for sharing your expertise. We look forward to continuing the series with our upcoming session on SF330 Mastery with Carrie Ann Williams of Andana Consulting.
