If you’re a Baltimore student who loves writing, storytelling, or journalism — this one’s for you. ✍️

CHARM’s Student Editorial Board is a citywide youth publishing program that runs September through May. Students meet in person every Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:30 PM, build real skills through workshops and publications, and earn a stipend for their work.

This summer, our SPI interns learned from some of the best! ✨

Throughout the program, we hosted incredible panels exploring journalism, traditional publishing, self-publishing, and independent bookstores, giving our interns an inside look at the many paths available in writing, media, and publishing.

A huge thank you to all of our panelists who generously shared their stories, talents, experiences, and advice with our interns and staff. Your insight helped make this summer an unforgettable learning experience!

Another Summer Publications Internship in the books! Last Friday we capped off the summer with breakfast, reflection, and student presentations that showed just how much this group learned, created, and accomplished over the past five weeks.

Big thanks to our interns, CHARM staff, site partners, funders, and panelists! Your mentorship and support made this program possible and made it unforgettable for every student.

Week 4 was filled with creativity, reflection, and community!

Our interns stepped into the perspective of the nature surrounding them through a creative writing exercise, then gathered for a heartfelt gratitude circle 🫂. They also toured Black Class Press, Inc to learn more about publishing and hung out with Chef Stevie from EKIBEN for an inspiring conversation, complete with some delicious food. 😋

Meet Jewelle Carter (), CHARM’s new Journalism Coordinator!

A Baltimore-based multimedia journalist, producer, media educator, and content creator, Jewelle brings more than a decade of experience in broadcast and digital media. Her work has been featured across , , , City Schools TV, , and more, after beginning her journalism career at and while attending Morgan State University.

As Journalism Coordinator, Jewelle brings her passion for storytelling, youth mentorship, and community-centered journalism to help cultivate the next generation of writers, reporters, and media makers. We’re excited to have her creativity, expertise, and leadership as part of the CHARM team.
