Hey SNPhAm! As September, a.k.a National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, comes to a close, it is necessary to share some tidbits on su***de as far as the prevalence of su***de in the United States, the warning signs for loved ones at risk, ways to help loved ones, as well as ways to help the "helpers". As future pharmacists, we are aware of how medications can help treat conditions of the body and mind. However, nothing comes close to the social connections we foster and the feeling of interconnectedness among ourselves and the world surrounding us. On a personal note, I have found myself on either the helper or "helpee" side of things, so I included some pointers that have helped me. Words of affirmation, such as "you are enough" and "there is beauty in your imperfections", are also beneficial. I also want to mention that these sayings can be applied to all of you wonderful beings!

Take care,

National donate life Blue & Green Day is here! According to Donate Life America, 113,000 men, women, and children are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. Every 10 minutes another person is added to the national transplant waiting list. One donor can save the lives of 8 others and improve the lives of 75-100 others, and that is why we are asking you to consider wearing Blue & Green and consider becoming an organ, tissue, and eye donor!

It is very important for healthcare providers to stay informed with laws and regulations in order to promote patient safety. HIV laws and policies were created in order to help prevent the spread of HIV. There are laws on the federal level as well as the state level, so it is imperative that healthcare providers know their stateโ€™s laws and regulations because they do vary from state to state.

Are you a current or future healthcare professional? Yes, so you should definitely come to this event.

On Friday, February 26, SNPhA is hosting a Mental Health in Black America discussion. This event will be an open discussion where we will talk about what it means to be black in America, how that affects mental health of African-Americans, and the role healthcare professionals play in all of this. And there's more! In attendance, we will have our very own, Dr. Jason Noel, a Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist who can give invaluable insight into the role the pharmacist plays when it comes to mental health. The event will be at 1 pm on Zoom (see below for the link). The only thing we ask is that you come with an open mind receptive to hear other people's viewpoints and potentially learn a thing or two.

We can't wait to see you there!

๐Ÿ’Š Why is engagement in pharmacy school essential to future career success?
๐Ÿ’Š Why is it important to be engaged as at every stage of pharmacy?
๐Ÿ’Š What do future employers, residency directors and fellowships look for in an applicant?

All of these questions and more will be answered at our February General Body Meeting! Join us on Monday, February 15th at 1:00PM
