Associated Black Charities Associated Black Charities is on an aggressive pursuit to Change the Future.

ABC works across Maryland as an educator, advocate, and supporter to eliminate race-based barriers and advance long-term solutions that create economic opportunities for African-Americans. We will strengthen significantly Maryland’s economy by focusing on the economic growth, the economic inclusion and economic influence of African Americans. Working with others who have a similar interest in Maryland’s economic future, we will dismantle the institutional barriers and biases that prevent people from realizing their full potential by addressing broken systems, not broken people. Informed by data and leading through innovative and research based approaches, ABC will ensure that economic opportunities are extended to, and seek to advance ALL people.

And we are excited to officially announce that the 2026 Vanguard Award for Economic Innovation & Leadership will be presented to Mark Anthony Thomas, President & CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee!

The Vanguard Award recognizes leaders who are helping to shape what comes next through bold thinking, visionary leadership, innovation, and a demonstrated commitment to moving communities and economies forward.

Mark Anthony Thomas has brought that kind of leadership to the Baltimore region.

Through his role at the Greater Baltimore Committee, Mark has demonstrated a deep commitment to community, regional growth, economic opportunity, business and civic leadership, and creating the conditions for a stronger and more competitive Baltimore region. His work reflects the kind of forward-thinking leadership required to build an economy where growth, opportunity, and community impact are connected.

And we are not only honoring Mark at this year's conference. We are bringing him into one of the day's most important conversations.

At the 2026 Equity in Action Conference: The Movement Continues, Mark will join Associated Black Charities President & CEO Chrissy M. Thornton for a candid fireside chat about economic mobility, regional growth, economic opportunity, and what it will take to build a stronger Baltimore region.

Together, they will explore the systems that shape who has access to opportunity, the role of business and civic leadership in removing structural barriers, and why regional economic growth must translate into tangible pathways for Black people and communities to build assets, ownership, influence, and wealth.

The conversation will also examine how philanthropy, business, government, institutions, and community partners can move beyond isolated interventions toward a connected economic ecosystem that helps people move up and stay up.

Drawing connections to Associated Black Charities' emerging The Ladder framework, Chrissy and Mark will challenge us to think differently about what economic mobility really requires and what becomes possible when regional growth and racial equity move together.

We are excited to welcome Alanah Nichole Davis as the Hostess and Emcee for the 2026 Associated Black Charities Equity In Action Conference!

A Baltimore-raised storyteller, journalist, and social designer, Alanah brings a powerful blend of culture, community, media, and civic engagement to everything she does. Her work is rooted in the belief that storytelling can create connection, expand opportunity, and move people toward meaningful change.

A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art with a master’s degree in Social Design, Alanah is especially committed to amplifying the voices and experiences of Black women and young people in Baltimore. She is known for creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, celebrated, and connected.

Alanah brings the energy, authenticity, curiosity, and distinctly Baltimore perspective that make her the perfect person to guide us through a day centered on racial equity, leadership, culture, power, wellness, and progress.

We are thrilled to have her leading the experience as The Movement Continues.
