The Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts
The Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts is the original football fan club in Maryland. Our organization, originally known as The Council of Colts Corrals, started as a single Colts Corral club and was chartered in May 1957. By October 1965, there were 11 individual Colts Corrals from around the state of Maryland. They banded together and filed The Articles of
Incorporation and became The Council of Colts Corrals. The organization continued to grow, despite the 13 year period when Baltimore had no NFL football team. The organization supported the USFL Baltimore Stars and the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL while lobbying for an NFL expansion team. Baltimore was very excited when Arthur Model decided to move his team to Baltimore, and they became known as the Baltimore Ravens. Trading as The Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts, the organization is now comprised of 73 active Ravens Roosts from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware; and, the first Roost in Virginia was added this year! The weekend after Memorial Day the Council holds its annual convention in Ocean City, MD when the various Roosts come together for food, fun, and to compete in friendly competitions. Among the activities are volleyball, horseshoes, corn holes, miniature golf, karaoke, BINGO, a dunk tank, and a scavenger hunt. A crazy hat parade winds its way around the courtyard at the Castle in the Sand Hotel. On Saturday morning there is also the much anticipated parade down Baltimore Avenue as thousands of Ravens fans and spectators line the street to watch the floats and marching groups from each Roost. Besides a love for Baltimore Football, The Council is also involved in charitable endeavors in our community. We donate annually to Believe in Tomorrow, and Baltimore’s Sports Legends Museum. We have become a major sponsor of Special Olympics Maryland by our participation in the annual MSP Polar Bear Plunge, Super Plunge, and Deep Creek Dunk, having raised over $1,000,000 to date. Each year we also recognize one player from the Ravens team as our “Unsung Hero” and donate $1,000 to their foundation or a charity of their choosing. Besides the Council’s work, each Roost is involved in its own charitable activities in their respective communities. Ravens players, cheerleaders, and the Ravens Pep Band also participate in the parade. The Council meets the third Friday of each month.
