CLIA's programs use a youth-adult partnership model in which young people and caring adult professionals work in true collaboration and achieve collective impact through learning, advocating, and inspiring change. CLIA leads two programs for young people - CLIA's Law & Leadership Academies at Baltimore City high schools and the statewide Just Kids Campaign. CLIA's Law & Leadership Academy introduc

es Baltimore City students to law and policy while teaching them to be critical thinkers, problem-solvers, active citizens and community leaders. The Just Kids Campaign is a statewide advocacy campaign working to stop the automatic prosecution of youth as adults in Maryland.

Yesterday, CLIA was proud to stand alongside community partners at the 2nd Annual Fight Against Opioids Summit in Baltimore.

Our team facilitated a Know Your Rights Workshop, equipping young people and community members with tools to understand their rights, protect themselves, and advocate for healthier, safer communities. From powerful conversations to community connection, the room was filled with people committed to awareness, prevention, and collective action.

Thank you to all the organizers, partners, and participants who showed up ready to learn and lead. The fight for informed, empowered communities continues.

📚 Know Your Rights: Community, Conversation & Collective Power
Last week at the Pratt Library Downtown, we hosted a powerful Know Your Rights event in partnership with and .
We were honored to feature an incredible lineup of speakers who brought knowledge, passion, and real solutions to the table:
✨ Chris Sweeney — Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS)
✨ Aaron Maybin — Author, Activist, Entrepreneur
✨ Dr. Lawrence Smith — Expert Speaker on Public Safety
✨ B360 Representatives — Advocates using STEM and culture to reshape narratives around public safety
Together, we created an intergenerational space to dig into justice reform, youth advocacy, and the importance of collaboration in shaping Baltimore’s future.
From understanding our rights to exploring pathways toward safer, stronger communities, this conversation reminded us that informed communities are empowered communities.

This event is open to all youth and adults so please feel free to share and encourage others to attend as we will share out information, resources and instruct community on their legal rights, as well an opportunity for those who may need it to sign up for record expungement. The effort is to galvanize communities to be proactive and organized thru times of needs. Participation and organization will have the opportunity to compensated per their level of engagement and roles within this ongoing and collaborative initiative.

CLIA hosted and organized our first Youth Mixer, a space designed to bring together young leaders and organizations across Baltimore to connect, learn, and grow.

We kicked things off with an introduction about how this event serves as an extension of our Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) continuing our mission to nurture leadership, collaboration, and youth voice throughout the year.

The event also featured an interactive session led by Young Successful Leaders (YSL) on budgeting and financial literacy, teaching practical tools for financial independence and showing how these skills tie directly into leadership and decision-making.

The energy in the room was electric filled with collaboration, learning, and new connections that will continue to strengthen youth leadership in Baltimore.
