Hey Friends and Neighbors! The last time we saw a 5 day single digit arctic blast, EVERY SINGLE HOUSE on Fountain Street had frozen pipes. Let me give you a few hints nd maybe all of us can avoid this catastrophe.
a
1. Let your water drip!! A pencil lead sized stream is the best, from every faucet.

2. Cover/insulate exterior faucets

3. Know your plumbing. If you have water pipes that run on an exterior wall, you may have to direct a portable heater at that wall to keep the pipes from freezing.

4. Keep your kitchen/bathroom sink base cabinets open so warm air can get in.

5. Believe it or not your sewer pipes can freeze as well. Run hot water every couple of hours will help keep that from happening

If you are parked on Fountain or Chester Streets ou need to move your car NOW! They are about to tow!

DPW announced that TRASH PICKUP will be WEDNESDAY (not Tuesday) this week due to the snowstorm.

01/07/2025

Please try and shovel the snow on your sidewalk. Our mail delivery person is finding it difficult to deliver the mail on our street and I am sure the other delivery people like UPS and Amazon are having a tough time as well.

Also thanks to the neighbors who shoveled my sidewalk!!

Hey neighbors! Several cars were towed/relocated off of Fountain St and Chester St. to the 2200 block of fleet St for the recent resurfacing work. If you are trying to find your car check it out. One car - a Toyota 4runner - was poorly parked by the tow truck and may be in jeopardy of being ticketed or towed again. Just a heads up for the owner of a Toyota 4 runner.

This storm has the potential to flood Washington St. and that end of Fountain St.

Heads up friends. There will be no trash pick up tomorrow August 6th. Dpw is holding safety training for all personnel after the death of a dpw worker. The make up day is Saturday.

I spoke with the BGE crew this morning. They said they will not be working on the Fourth of July. Doing the happy dance to be able to park on the street.

06/23/2024

BGE will be digging up the middle of Fountain St. in order to replace the gas main. After that, they will be replacing individual house connections and installing new regulators.

BGE told me that each household will be contacted by postcard or door hanger to let each house know. You have the right to refuse the bulky ugly external regulators that BGE is pushing on households.

Hey Neighbors! We are heading into FROZEN PIPE WEATHER! This weather is sure to cause frozen pipes on our street. Let your faucets drip! A thin "pencil lead" stream should help keep that pipe from freezing. If you have pipes on exterior walls, you might want to put a space heater near that wall. Know where your water shut off is located. Have a plumbers phone number handy just in case.

WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR BLUE OF GREEN TRASH CAN?

Hi Neighbors -

If you missed the last two blue cart community collection events, you can still return your cart as part of UFPIA's efforts to bring some dignity back to our sidewalks and to the overall appearance of the neighborhood. Keep in mind that you are not required to use the city issued carts (blue or green) for trash and recycling and in the past, many residents had their own receptacles that were easier to handle. With that said, if you have no use for the blue recycling cart, we are having the 3rd and last collection. The details are as follows - the deadline is Sunday, 3/6/2022 at 9 pm.

1) On a piece of paper write 1) your address and 2) "return to DPW" . If you want a 35-gallon cart to replace the 65-gallon cart that you are returning, then add "Requesting smaller cart"

2) Tape paper to the front of the cart (not with duct tape please);

3) Take it to 211 S. Wolfe St;

4) Turn bin upside down and put against the building or against other bins; please do not block the sidewalk;

Convenience is not always the best solution and UFPIA volunteers continue to invest countless hours to beautify our community through trash and litter cleanups, tree planting and pruning, and other greening, art and beautification projects. Everyone can do a little to help.
