ICYM: Data for Progress and Migration that Works made public the findings of a poll conducted with people from Connecticut and Maryland. The poll revealed that people strongly oppose expanding guestworker programs, and instead support reforms that protect workers, strengthen employer accountability, and rebalance employer-worker relationships.

Rafael Calixtro, originario de Guanajuato, conoce de primera mano el poder de la lucha por los derechos laborales. Tras recuperar salarios no pagados con el apoyo del CDM, se unió al Comité de Defensa del Migrante para ayudar a otros trabajadores con visa H-2 a conocer sus derechos y exigir un trato justo.

Behind the games, rides, and funnel cakes at the Maryland State Fair are guestworkers who make the magic happen. 🎟️

Many of these workers come to the U.S. on visas that tie them to a single employer, which puts them at a higher risk for abuse and exploitation.

Every worker deserves fair pay, safe working conditions, and the freedom to walk away from an abusive workplace.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of migrant workers are recruited to come to the United States for low-wage jobs on temporary visas. This immersive exhibit and reception shines a light on the pervasive discrimination guestworkers face throughout the recruitment and employment pipeline.

Through displays featuring blatantly discriminatory job postings, personal worker testimonies, and powerful stories of migrant resistance, the event exposes the systemic barriers facing migrant workers—and celebrates their resilience in demanding justice.

Admission is free and open to the public; contributions in support of CDM’s mission to advance migrant workers' rights are warmly welcomed.
