Elia ha viajado a Estados Unidos en más de 14 temporadas con una visa H-2B para trabajar en la industria de la jaiba. Como trabajadora migrante, ha visto y enfrentado numerosos abusos en el lugar de trabajo. A huge thanks to The LIFT Fund’s Southern Worker Opportunity Fund for inviting Julia Solórzanod, our Legal and Policy Director to participate in a panel on building worker power in the automotive sector. It was a great opportunity to talk about our recent litigation against Hyundai Mobis and Kia Georgia and the need for an alternative model of migration that elevates labor standards for all workers.

Cuando Isidro, Heber y otros cinco ingenieros mexicanos aceptaron ofertas de trabajo en Hyundai Mobis y Kia Georgia bajo el programa de visas TN, pensaron que estaban dando el siguiente paso en sus carreras.
En cambio, alegan que fueron víctimas de un engaño. Aunque las empresas demandadas niegan todas las acusaciones de conducta indebida, los trabajadores se negaron a guardar silencio.
Estos valientes trabajadores se enfrentaron a los gigantes automotrices Hyundai Mobis y Kia Georgia en busca de justicia, y han alcanzado un acuerdo histórico. Esto es lo que quieren que otras personas trabajadoras sepan.

When Isidro, Heber, and five fellow Mexican engineers accepted job offers at Hyundai Mobis and Kia Georgia under the TN visa program, they thought they were stepping into the next chapter of their careers.
Instead, they allege they were victims of a bait-and-switch. Although the defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing, the workers refused to stay silent.
These courageous workers took on auto giants Hyundai Mobis and Kia Georgia in pursuit of justice, and they reached a historic settlement. Here is what they want other workers to know.

Nos dio mucho gusto reencontrarnos con integrantes del Comité de Defensa del Migrante, así como con organizaciones aliadas. We visited communities in San Luis Potosí to share information about workers’ rights, fraud prevention, and resources available to people who work or have family members working in the United States on temporary work visas.
It was a pleasure to reconnect with members of the Migrant Defense Committee, as well as partner organizations. We also thank Radio Reyna, Radio Digital, and Región Huasteca for opening their microphones to us and helping spread information that can make a difference for migrant workers.
