Seafarers are far more than a workforce. As our Secretary General writes, each is a son or daughter, partner or parent, neighbour or friend, with their own hopes, worries and responsibilities.

Recognising that, he says, is one of the reasons the work of the Mission matters so much.

Maritime may not be something you think about every day, but it plays a role in more of your daily life than you might realize.

More than 80% of global trade is transported by sea. From the car you drive and the paper products you use to aluminum, sugar and road salt, many everyday goods and materials are connected to the maritime industry.

In 2025, the Port of Baltimore handled a record 1.1 million containers, carrying everything from clothing to electronics, along with 728,225 cars and light trucks.

This , we’re celebrating the maritime industry that connects Maryland to the world and helps keep our everyday lives moving.
