Meet Shelby. She was just 22 years old when out of nowhere, she felt a lump in her breast. Shelby was ultimately diagnosed with breast cancer and turned to the cancer experts at Ascension Saint Agnes for what ultimately proved to be lifesaving care.

Today, Shelby is reflecting back on her journey with gratitude for the many doctors, nurses, patient navigators, and other staff members who cared for her clinically, compassionately, and holistically. She also credits her village of family members and loved ones who never left her side, shaved their heads too, and fought alongside her - from the day she was diagnosed through the day she was deemed cancer free.

Today we are putting the spotlight on our friends from Five Star Federal Credit Union, a longstanding and valued partner of Ascension Saint Agnes, with a meaningful on-site presence through their branch located on our hospital campus.

This year, Five Star officially joined our Corporate Partners Program. They made a generous multi-year pledge of $50,000 over five years in support of the Daughters of Charity Fund—an essential resource that provides financial assistance to associates facing unexpected hardship. Their support directly impacts the well-being of our workforce, ensuring that those who dedicate their lives to caring for others are supported in times of need.

In addition to their financial commitment, Five Star has extended their partnership through active engagement in our community initiatives. Most recently, they stepped forward to support our upcoming Medical Mission at Home event by providing giveaway items, helping us create a welcoming and impactful experience for vulnerable members of our community.

It's Women's History Month, and as a result, we are saluting the Ascension Saint Agnes' Neurology team ... a group of fabulous women who are committed to providing superior care to patients every day. They treat patients with seizures, strokes, Parkinson's Disease, dementia, sleep disorders, and other neurological conditions that require comprehensive, long-term care.

Dr. Crystal Janani, who serves as both Chair of Neuroscience and Chief of Neurology at the hospital, offered some perspective on just how special this team of women is.

Q: What are the team's greatest strengths?
A; Everyone is willing to help each other out, as true team players. If a staff member is not able to come into work, everyone else steps up, and does so without complaint. We are all willing to help others and that is what makes a good team!

Q: How does this team support one another while also caring for patients?
A: We are engaged with each other and have created a work environment that is incredibly positive and nurturing.
