In Honor and Memory: The Dorothy E. Brunson Foundation

Dorothy Jean Edwards Brunson was the first African American Woman to manage a major Ad Agency in New York, and Communications Company (Inner City Broadcasting, WBLS, and WLIB), to own and operate a radio Station (WEBB and WIGO) and own and operate a TV Station (WGTW-TV48). Brunson invented today’s Urban Contemporary Radio format and aided in

the 1970’s Disco explosion. A global visionary with an ear for music, and an eye for trends, Ms. Brunson mentored Ms. Cathy Hughes, CEO of Radio One, Inc., and Mayor Catherine Pugh, Baltimore, Maryland; Ms. Brunson assisted with building schools and churches in Africa, offered millions of people her services in charity and missionary work, and she taught business economics courses and principles around the world. The late Dorothy E. Brunson incorporated entrepreneurial zeal, community, education, family, broadcast, and media richness in every venture launched. It is in light of this that supporters of the Dorothy E. Brunson Foundation empower and carry forward Ms. Brunson’s core values. Respectfully, the mission of the late Dorothy E. Brunson Foundation is “To Support and Promote Achievement of the Disenfranchised and Women in STEM, Business, and Media through Scholarship, Training, Networking, and Philanthropy.”
