And now for something completely different.

Hypno-Poe: “Landor’s Cottage” for Relaxation and Meditation

Not recommended for listening while driving or operating heavy equipment.

National Edgar Allan Poe Artistic Director Alex Zavistovich reads “Landor’s Cottage.”. Set to binaural beats and a kaleidoscopic video. This 35-minute reading is intended to put you in a deeply relaxed state, to aid in stress reduction and to help lull you to sleep.

If any of my friends is going to Edinburgh Fringe this year, I highly recommend catching Stephen Smith of Threedumb Theatre, in his “One-Man-Rep EdFringe Season.”

It’s a marvel.

Four Edgar Allan Poe plays will alternate each night all month long, carried entirely on Stephen’s shoulders.

Here’s his press material. Seriously, don’t miss it. It’s remarkable:

Threedumb Theatre presents One Man Poe

To commemorate the 175th anniversary of the American author’s mysterious death in 1849, one actor (Stephen Smith) commits to memory four of Edgar Allan Poe’s most spine-chilling classics, and performs them all back-to-back and unabridged, live on stage. The four stories are: 1) The Tell-Tale Heart; 2) The Pit and the Pendulum; 3) The Black Cat; 4) The Raven.

The first two stories are performed in one night, and then the second two stories are played the next night, and are alternated throughout the month.

This “marathon of the macabre” takes place in a stunning, quirky and unique room in Greenside's Riddles Court complex.

Doomsday is in the news in Brazil!

Break a leg for our international participants, Vigor Mortis, Grand Guignol de Milan and Threedumb Theatre

In case you can’t read Portuguese, here is the best translation Google can provide:

“Vigor Mortis is the First and Only Brazilian on Doomsday

The celebration of horror master Edgar Allan Poe, with 24 hours of readings around the world, is this Saturday (18 May) and promises to be an event that will not be forgotten "ever again"

The Crow of Curitiba, together with his entourage of night worshipers, was invited to this year's edition of Doomsday – a reading marathon in honor of none other than Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849). Of course, Paulo Biscaia Filho didn't think twice and answered “yes” (to tell the truth, he said “yes!”) and now he's going to add to Vigor Mortis' resume of unusual productions. The theater company, film producer and publisher is the first Brazilian on the program for the event that promises to “never be forgotten again.”

Watch and take Poe's words forward

For those interested, the broadcast of the Brazilians' participation – with readings done in English – is this Saturday (18), from 5 pm to 11:59 pm on the company's YouTube channel. But true fans of Poe, of Vigor Mortis and who are not content with just watching on the screen have a chance to be there in person, very close to everything sinister that will happen live.

The project is independent; it does not have any sponsorship or funding from a law to encourage culture, which is why an online crowdfunding was launched with contributions starting at R$15 to support the production and “turn this dark Saturday into a celebration of macabre literature, to inspire and intrigue.”

There are few places available among different rewards for the creatures of the night who prove to be generous patrons of this dark journey. Ah, sharing the broadcast link is also a help.

Doomsday with Vigor Mortis

Doomsday is a worldwide event created by Alex Zavistovich of the National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre, in Baltimore (USA), to celebrate the work of horror master Edgar Allan Poe with readings around the globe for 24 uninterrupted hours of the author's works. In addition to the American creator, companies from Italy, the United Kingdom and Vigor Mortis are participating in this year's edition.

The director of Brazilian participation is Biscaia Filho and the technical co-director is Paulo Rosa (the one who always dies in the exploits of these guys).

In addition to the directors, the cast includes Caroline Roehrig, Daniele Mariano, Desi Davoglio, Natalie Fronczak, Angela Stadler and Brian Townes.

The short stories selected for reading are “The Raven”, “The Fall of The House of Usher”, “The Black Cat”, “The Mask of the Red Death” (The Masque of the Scarlet Death), and “Berenice”, among others!

A celebração do mestre do horror Edgar Allan Poe, com 24 horas de leituras ao redor do mundo, é neste sábado (18) e promete ser um evento que não será esquecido "nunca mais"
