We hear it from HR leaders, event planners, and healthcare teams all the time: 'We didn't think about access until the day of.'

So we're asking: when it comes to communication access, when do your teams typically plan?

#1 At the very start — built into the event/project plan
#2 A few weeks out
#3 Last minute, reactive
#4 We're still figuring this out

No judgment — this data helps us understand where organizations need the most support.

Since 1926, Gateway has been doing something deceptively simple and incredibly powerful: making communication possible.

Not once. Not occasionally. Every day.

A child learning to communicate in their own way.
A family finally feeling guided instead of alone.
A patient receiving care with clarity and dignity.
A Deaf community member getting the language access they deserve.

When you look at our history, you’ll see old photos, different buildings, different tools, and different eras. But the mission has stayed steady: helping people understand and be understood.

Here’s to the next chapter. We’re building it right now: https://gatewaymaryland.org/

We’re sharing this thoughtful piece from Gallaudet University on what it means to sit at the intersection of sign language and artificial intelligence and to ask the questions that actually matter: Who gets to shape sign language AI, on what terms, and with what accountability?

If you care about language access, ethics, and the future of communication, this is worth your time:

What does the future hold for sign language and artificial intelligence? No one knows for sure, but at the inaugural SLxAI Summit in Boston this week, a

The day a child finds their voice — you never forget it.

For Gateway School students, that moment doesn't happen by accident. It happens because of speech therapy, patient teachers, and a community of monthly donors who believe it's possible. Behind every breakthrough is someone who showed up.

Be the reason a child finds their voice. Join the Giving Guild: https://gatewaymaryland.org/giving-guild/

Every child deserves a school where communication comes first.

Gateway School is a K–8 non-public special education school in Maryland that supports students with autism and other communication-related needs through individualized, comprehensive programming.

Here, learning is built around the whole child, including communication, academics, social-emotional growth, and functional life skills, so students can build confidence and independence over time.
